1. November 2021Autonomous transport systems (ATS) play a central role in intralogistics. The efficient operation of the vehicles is ensured by encoders from Hengstler. They measure the speed, steering angle, and lift height of the ATS. The encoders are robust, very compact, and offer versatile connection options.
(Pressebox; Aldingen) Absolute encoders and incremental encoders from Hengstler have been used in autonomous transport systems for many years. Renowned manufacturers of ATS appreciate, among other things, the precision as well as the shock and vibration resistance of the encoders. They use the encoders from the Swabian Aldingen in various automated industrial trucks such as counterbalance forklifts, portal trucks, underfloor vehicles, or parking robots. Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) not only handle the storage and retrieval of goods or raw materials but also support the picking of finished products or deliver components to production lines just-in-time.
Encoders from Hengstler enable the fast, smooth operation of autonomous transport systems by measuring the driving speed, lift height, and steering angle of the ATS. With the help of the encoders, transport robots can therefore reach their destination in the shortest possible time. For installation in automated industrial trucks, both the absolute encoders of the ACURO® series and ICURO incremental encoders are suitable: while the absolute encoders are primarily used to measure the steering angle, the incremental encoders measure, among other things, the speed of the vehicles.

In Various Designs
Hengstler offers its encoders in a wide variety of designs and with numerous equipment options. The absolute encoders are available in both singleturn and multiturn variants, and some types offer a wide range of programmable functions beyond the standard settings (ACURO® AC58/AC59/61). In addition to designs for BLDC, servo, and stepper motors, the incremental encoders also include encoders for battery-operated ATS that consume very little power.
Hengstler manufactures all encoders on a made-to-order basis and can customize them to the specific application starting from a quantity of 1. This ensures that the customer’s requirements are met in every detail.
