Gebrüder Weiss achieves climate neutrality with “zero emissions”
Nov 2, 2021 at 4:52 PMIn a major step towards digitization and quality improvement in global cargo handling, Lufthansa Cargo is now collaborating with IBS Software to digitize key handling processes for special products and services such as dangerous goods, pharmaceuticals, and fresh goods.
(Frankfurt/Main) The implementation of Lufthansa Cargo’s “Mobile Digital Handling” initiative is a significant step to replace paper-based processes of tasks and process controls performed by Ground Handling Agents (GHA) with a digital solution.
The initiative utilizes IBS Software’s latest iPartner Handling solution to extend Lufthansa Cargo’s specific checks and Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) across the extensive global GHA network. The solution seamlessly integrates into the systems of airlines that use IBS Software’s iCargo cloud platform for air cargo management. GHAs are provided with a range of easy-to-use mobile and web tools to carry out specific workflows and tasks. Through the iPartner Handling solution, information captured by the GHAs is transmitted in real-time to Lufthansa Cargo to enhance the quality and service level of all cargo products. The platform also offers digital connectivity options for GHAs via APIs and has been designed with future industry initiatives such as ONE Record in mind.
The rollout is planned in two phases. In the first phase, more than 30 Lufthansa Cargo stations in Europe, Asia, and North and South America will be put into operation, followed by additional stations and various new use cases and extensions of the solution. The first wave of five stations has already been successfully launched.
Digital Transformation is a Priority
“Driving the digital transformation of our industry has always been a priority for Lufthansa Cargo. In addition to the immediate improvement of data quality and the associated increase in process efficiency, the ‘Mobile Digital Handling’ initiative also opens up enormous opportunities for us to further develop and enhance collaboration with our partners across the entire supply chain,” said Dr. Jan-Wilhelm Breithaupt, Vice President Global Fulfillment Management at Lufthansa Cargo.
“There is a strong momentum in the industry to promote digitalization initiatives that improve partnerships and collaboration in the supply chain. With the iPartner Handling solution, we are getting closer to our overarching goal of building a digital ecosystem for our iCargo customers that helps them achieve positive business outcomes quickly and effectively,” said Ashok Rajan, SVP & Head of Cargo & Logistics, IBS Software.
Long-term Partnership Expanded
“We are pleased to further expand our long-term partnership with IBS Software. ‘Mobile Digital Handling’ is the next success story that demonstrates how the combination of IBS Software’s technological leadership and Lufthansa Cargo’s innovative strength contributes to shaping our industry. It has been a pleasure to see how the implementation of our vision went hand in hand with the development of the iPartner Handling solution. As the first customer, we hope that more cargo airlines will soon join this new community solution. Together, we will drive the digitalization of the industry,” said Dr. Jochen Göttelmann, CIO at Lufthansa Cargo.
