CNA e.V. Celebrates Anniversary and Awards Logistics Innovations
3. November 2021GREIWING logistics for you GmbH is investing 18 million euros in the expansion of its location in Worms. A symbolic groundbreaking ceremony today (November 2) marked the start of extensive construction work. Over the next few months, two additional logistics halls will be built on the approximately 23,000 square meter site in the northern industrial area of Worms, with areas of 4,000 and 3,150 square meters and 7,500 and 4,000 pallet spaces respectively. Additionally, the construction of three filling silos, each with a capacity of 120 cubic meters, is planned.
(Greven/Worms) “Construction projects of this magnitude are always challenging. However, the project in Worms was particularly special from the beginning, as we had to assume that we would find burial sites from the Celtic period on the site,” says Jürgen Greiwing, Managing Partner of GREIWING logistics for you GmbH. “The fact that the archaeological excavations ultimately uncovered 120 Celtic graves was surprising and forced us to revise the timelines even before the actual construction work began,” Greiwing reports. The recovery of 120 skeletons along with grave goods such as swords, clothing, jewelry, and gold ultimately took nine months instead of the six months initially planned. Additionally, the logistics specialist had to catch and relocate more than 400 fence and wall lizards over the summer.
After receiving approval for the construction site, a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony today (November 2) marked the official start of construction. GOLDBECK Münster, as the general contractor, will now build two new logistics halls with areas of 4,000 and 3,150 square meters adjacent to the existing GREIWING branch over the next twelve months. Special attention was paid to sustainability in the planning. Only LEDs will be installed, a photovoltaic system will be set up, and the offices will be heated using an air heat pump. Both halls will be designed for products up to water hazard class 3. In automatic shifting racks, a total of 11,500 pallets can be stored there in the future.
Three filling silos with a capacity of 120 m3 each
In addition, three filling silos with a capacity of 120 cubic meters each will be located on the 23,000 square meter site, as well as a 32-meter high filling tower, which will house a mixing silo, a stainless steel silo, and an aluminum silo with an integrated vibration system. Two silage halls will also be installed, through which material from bags and big bags can be transferred into silo trailers. Christian Terwey, Branch Manager of GOLDBECK Münster, comments: “The fact that GREIWING has entrusted us with the project again after six joint construction projects shows that we have done a lot right in the past. We will of course build on that.”
As a result, GREIWING is expanding its hall capacity in Worms from the current 8,300 to soon 15,450 square meters. The number of pallet spaces will more than double, from currently 8,300 to 19,800. The same applies to the number of employees, which is expected to increase from 40 to more than 80 with the commissioning of the expansion.
Commissioning in October 2022
However, there will be no changes to the range of services that the logistics specialist offers at its Rhineland-Palatinate location. As before, plastic granulates as well as food products will primarily be stored, siloed, mixed, and filled in Worms. If necessary, even under clean room conditions.
The expansion, which is set to go into operation in October 2022, became necessary to adapt the capacities in Worms to the steadily growing order volume of the logistics company in recent years. Greiwing: “We are investing here in the future and creating the conditions to continue the solid growth of our company in recent years.”
