TGW Robotics Moves to a New Location in Thansau
11. November 2021Daimler Truck AG and TotalEnergies have today signed an agreement to jointly commit to the decarbonization of road freight transport in the European Union. The partners will collaborate on the development of a hydrogen infrastructure for heavy trucks, thereby demonstrating the attractiveness and effectiveness of CO2-neutral road freight transport based on hydrogen.
(Stuttgart/Paris) The collaboration includes hydrogen procurement, including the associated logistics, the supply of hydrogen to filling stations, the development of hydrogen-based trucks, the establishment of a customer base, and other areas. TotalEnergies aims to operate up to 150 hydrogen filling stations directly or indirectly in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France by 2030. As part of the cooperation, Daimler Truck will also deliver hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks to its customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France by 2025. The truck manufacturer will support its customers in ensuring a simple and competitive operation of the vehicles.
Karin Rådström, responsible for the Mercedes-Benz Trucks brand and a member of the Board of Daimler Truck AG: “We are fully committed to the Paris Agreement and want to actively contribute to the decarbonization of road freight transport in the European Union. For long-distance transport, we see hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks alongside purely battery-electric trucks as CO2-neutral solutions. To achieve this, we want to build a hydrogen infrastructure in Europe together with strong partners like TotalEnergies, and I am firmly convinced that this will be essential for establishing fuel cell trucks in the transport industry.”
Building a Multi-Energy Company
Alexis Vovk, President of Marketing & Services and a member of the Board of TotalEnergies: “Hydrogen will play a role in TotalEnergies’ journey towards decarbonizing road transport, particularly freight transport in long-distance travel. Our company is actively exploring all aspects of the hydrogen value chain for transport, from production to delivery to distribution, and is building important partnerships for this purpose. Together with society, we want to build a multi-energy company that aims to achieve net zero by 2050. Therefore, establishing a European network of hydrogen filling stations for road transport is one of the central challenges we want to tackle. We are proud to collaborate with a motivated player like Daimler Truck to develop CO2-neutral freight transport with a unified approach.”
Reducing Overall Operating Costs for Hydrogen Trucks
To further develop these projects and establish hydrogen in road freight transport, both companies also want to explore ways to reduce the total operating costs of a hydrogen truck. For this purpose, they will of course cooperate with the authorities that regulate the relevant legal framework within the European Union. Daimler Truck and TotalEnergies are also members of the H2Accelerate consortium. The two companies remain fully committed to collaborating with the consortium, which supports the introduction of hydrogen-powered transport in Europe in the coming decade.
