Daimler Truck and Total Develop Hydrogen Infrastructure
10. November 2021The globally active full-service provider Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has completed a new state-of-the-art freight facility in addition to its existing Bremen location. The new building, with a total of over 1,500 sqm of office space and 8,000 sqm of transshipment area and 100 gates, was put into operation at the beginning of September after less than a year of construction.
(Osnabrück/Bremen) This significantly expands the capacities of the logistics service provider Hellmann, which has been based in Bremen since 1988, and responds to the ongoing growth trend in the product areas of general cargo and direct load in the Bremen/Ostfriesland region.
With the construction of the new freight facility at the Bremen site, the 150-year-old traditional company is sustainably preparing for the logistics of the future: In addition to app-controlled shunting processes and smartly navigated industrial trucks, the entire facility is geared towards intelligent processes – from visitor management to an automated lighting system to digital order control on the premises and autonomously driving e-cleaning devices. Wrapping robots assist employees by wrapping goods directly at their respective storage locations. This saves both time and trips, thereby contributing to the optimization of core freight processes. Furthermore, it is planned to generate about 50 percent of the electricity required for the operation of the entire facility through a photovoltaic system on the roof of the hall starting early next year – including the e-charging stations for the increasingly electric company car fleet. In this way, the logistics provider makes an important contribution to CO2 reduction with its freight facility developed to the latest standards.
Bremen is an Important Location
“Bremen, with its excellent transport connections covering the entire spectrum of combined transport with sea, rail, and truck transport, is an important location for us. Therefore, we have invested in our future with the new logistics center to continue to grow strategically from here. In recent decades, we have already seen a steady volume growth in the region and an increased demand for international transport in Europe, as well as in global sea traffic. Therefore, I am very pleased that we have succeeded in establishing such a forward-looking and innovative location in direct proximity to the freight transport center (GVZ), where some of our colleagues are still based,” says Sven Eisfeld, Managing Director of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics Germany.
Setting the Course for Strategic Growth at the Location
“The new property meets all the requirements of a modern infrastructure through the use of smart technologies combined with our decades of accumulated know-how. Therefore, we are pleased to operate a facility in Bremen that leaves no customer wishes unfulfilled and represents our processes intelligently and forward-looking. This sets real standards in the industry and strategically lays the groundwork for sustainable growth at the Bremen location,” adds Marco Schulte, Area Manager Bremen/Ostfriesland, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics Germany.
