Hapag-Lloyd Reports Strong Results and First Woman on the Board
13. November 2021The leading Swiss online retailer Digitec Galaxus is doubling its warehouse capacity at the central warehouse in Wohlen with Exotec. This increase in efficiency is made possible by a tailored logistics solution that can be integrated into existing systems. The launch is scheduled for June 2022, and by October 2022, a first part should already be operational.
(Croix/Wohlen) The name of the program is SpaceRace, and it is not an exaggerated choice. Over the next three years, Digitec Galaxus AG plans to double the performance and capacity of the central warehouse in Wohlen. At the same time, the existing structure is to be largely maintained. This is only possible if the available storage space is utilized with maximum efficiency.
Shelf Layout Adapted to the Warehouse Building
With the implementation of Exotec’s Skypod system, the shelf layout will be adapted to the warehouse building to optimally use the available space. All robots operate completely autonomously and in three dimensions. This allows them to move not only in the aisles but also to drive directly up to the shelves. As a result, goods can be stored much closer together and at heights of up to 12 meters. This enables a significantly higher storage density compared to conventional order picking.
Fast Implementation Time
Another critical factor in implementing the new warehouse system is the timeline. After the installation starts in June 2022, the first part of the system should already be usable by October 2022.
However, the Skypod system is specifically designed for such challenges: since the shelves do not need to be connected to the periphery, the system can be installed extremely quickly. Unlike other solutions, the Skypod system can also be mounted on a base plate that complies with the usual building regulations for warehouse buildings.
Planned Scaling
Currently, Digitec Galaxus AG generates a revenue of over 1.8 billion CHF – with a growth rate of 59% in the last year. Digitec Galaxus expects strong growth in the coming years as well. This expansion can be easily realized with Exotec’s Skypod system. All components are designed to be quickly and seamlessly dismantled.
