Starting in 2023, the production of Jungheinrich’s reach trucks will take place on approximately 37,000 square meters. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2022. The project budget amounts to around 60 million euros. The realization of the new site will be carried out in collaboration with a developer using a built-to-suit approach. It is expected that more than 350 new jobs will be created on-site.
(Hamburg/Chomutov) Jungheinrich is expanding its production network with the aim of meeting the continuously strong demand for its material handling equipment in the future. The reason for choosing the location in Chomutov is its central position in Europe and the resulting excellent logistical connections. The new plant is a key component in achieving the growth targets of the 2025+ strategy and contributing to increased efficiency and profitability.
Sabine Neuß, Chief Technology Officer of Jungheinrich AG: “The demand for Jungheinrich vehicles is growing continuously, and accordingly, our production capacities must grow as well. The eleventh Jungheinrich plant is being established in Chomutov, which will be one of the most modern manufacturing facilities for material handling equipment in the world. This way, we grow sustainably and profitably, and enhance Jungheinrich’s competitiveness in the long term.”
Gradual Shift from Norderstedt
The current production of reach trucks at the Jungheinrich plant in Norderstedt will gradually be relocated to the new site in Chomutov starting in 2023. The capacities that become available in Norderstedt will be utilized to enable further growth there as well. Jungheinrich will expand its production portfolio at the Norderstedt site and include parts of the vertical order pickers, which are primarily used in the steadily increasing e-commerce sector.
