Swissterminal AG is expanding its Swiss train product portfolio starting January 1, 2022, with a new connection between Antwerp and Ottmarsheim. This service will commence with three direct round trips per week between the port of Antwerp and Ottmarsheim, thus providing the Alsace region with the fastest overnight connection to the Belgian port.
(Frenkendorf/Ottmarsheim) With the new product, 540 TEU can be transported environmentally friendly by rail each week. This represents an efficient and economical alternative to more polluting modes of transport. Furthermore, Swissterminal expects that the new rail capacities will relieve supply chains in the region and make the network more reliable.
In Ottmarsheim, processing takes place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. In Antwerp, the processing days are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Customers benefit from convenient pick-up and delivery times as well as numerous additional services from Swissterminal, such as repair/maintenance and reefer services.
“With the expansion of our rail network, we are opening up new opportunities in the tri-border area of France, Switzerland, and Germany,” explains Roman Mayer, CEO of Swissterminal. “Due to its location on the Rhine, Ottmarsheim is an important site for numerous shipping companies, freight forwarders, and shippers. With the new rail connection, we not only meet market demand for a sustainable transport link to one of the most important seaports in Europe, but we also take a step closer to our goal of making Ottmarsheim a rail hub for the tri-border region.”
Expansion of Rail Products in the Coming Months and Years
After Swissterminal received the concession to operate the French ports of Mulhouse in Ottmarsheim, Ile Napoléon, and Hüningen-Village-Neuf on July 1, 2021, the company announced plans to further expand transport connections to key European locations for the logistics industry in Alsace, southern Germany, and Switzerland. The new rail product is the first step of several planned developments in the coming months and years.
“The Alsace region has enormous logistical potential, and we have ambitious plans for the future here,” explains Mayer. “With our expertise in intermodal transport as well as our wide range of services, innovations, and warehousing, Swissterminal is firmly committed to supporting the growth of the region and meeting market demands.”
