Christian Levrat Takes Over Presidency at Swiss Post

Transition at Swiss Post: Urs Schwaller hands over his position today to Christian Levrat. Urs Schwaller has chaired the Board of Directors of the Post since April 2016 and has positioned the company for the future during a turbulent time. Starting December 1, 2021, the Fribourg native Christian Levrat will take over as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Post.

(Bern) Christian Levrat will assume the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Post from outgoing Urs Schwaller on December 1, 2021. Christian Levrat was born on July 7, 1970, in La-Tour-de-Trême, Fribourg, and resides in Vuadens. The lawyer and political scientist has always advocated for a strong public service throughout his career. He served as a National and Cantonal Councillor for the Canton of Fribourg and chaired the SP Switzerland from 2008 to 2020. Levrat was also a member of the parliamentary commission for transport and telecommunications (KVF). Additionally, he led the Commission for Economic Affairs and Taxation (WAK) of the Council of States and is a profound expert on Swiss politics. Christian Levrat is married and a father of three children. He speaks French, his mother tongue, as well as German and English.

With the assumption of the presidency of the Post, which occupies 50 percent of his working time, Christian Levrat has resigned from his parliamentary mandate. Christian Levrat commented on his appointment: “The Post has set the right strategic course with my predecessor. I see it as my duty to continue the discussion regarding the legal framework in this sense. Not only in the interest of the employees and customers of the Post but especially to maintain the Post as a cornerstone of the superior Swiss infrastructure as a competitive advantage for the economy and the people of our country.”

Important Milestones Achieved

“I leave a stable Post that has set the right course for the future. With Roberto Cirillo and the executive management, the company has a good leadership team that will take care of the employees, as they are the heart and soul of the Post,” says Urs Schwaller.

The outgoing Chairman of the Board, Urs Schwaller, has led the Post since April 2016 and has achieved important milestones during his five-year term. During his tenure, a broad and transparent discussion about the future of the post office network was initiated, and a future-proof and comprehensive network of modern access points was established. For Urs Schwaller, public service has always been at the center. During his time as president, he also prepared the company for the future. Urs Schwaller, together with the executive management, set important strategic directions with the new strategy “Post of Tomorrow” so that Switzerland can continue to benefit from a high-quality public service in the future. Urs Schwaller’s presidency also coincided with turbulent times. As Chairman of the Board, he was responsible for the consistent and rapid resolution of the PostAuto affair.
