Harder Logistics Takes Over Relocation for Luminator to Neu-Ulm
30. November 2021In the selection process of the sporting goods retailer Sportisimo, SSI Schäfer impressed with its intralogistics expertise and received the contract: the newly built distribution center of Sportisimo in Hrušov/Ostrava, Czech Republic, will be equipped by SSI Schäfer with an automated intralogistics solution. The hall is being constructed on the site of a former industrial wasteland in Contera Park Ostrava D1.
(PresseBox; Neunkirchen/Ostrava) The new distribution center of Sportisimo in Ostrava is intended to supply both stores and Sportisimo customers who have ordered through the online shop. The future solution focuses on the aspect of automation.
The contract between Sportisimo and the intralogistics specialist SSI Schäfer was signed in May 2021. This is a significant project that underscores the development and goals of the sporting goods retailer. Currently, the planning is in full swing, and construction of the hall has also begun. The operation of the new facility is scheduled to start in January 2023, which represents a record time for such a large and complex project. In the future, Sportisimo will supply both its stores and online customers in the Czech Republic and surrounding countries in Central and Eastern Europe from Contera Park Ostrava D1.
Highest efficiency thanks to state-of-the-art technology
The new logistics solution is designed to ensure maximum storage efficiency. “In the hall of Sportisimo, more than 6,000 meters of conveyor technology from SSI Schäfer will be installed, connecting the various storage areas – from depalletizing through goods receipt to the automated small parts warehouse (AKL) and the picking area to shipping. Along the conveyor routes, 150 workstations will be set up where all orders and returns will be consolidated. The AKL is designed to a height of 23 meters and currently has 11 aisles with a capacity of over 300,000 cartons. It receives cartons that come directly from suppliers. In the future, it is planned to expand the small parts warehouse with additional aisles,” explains Marian Gono, Managing Director of SSI Schäfer Systems International in the Czech Republic.
He adds that in addition to the AKL, a four-story pick tower is to be built. This consists of shelves with aisles. In a central aisle, additional conveyor technology will be installed, as well as workstations where the consolidation of the picked orders will take place. Furthermore, a large steel platform will be constructed in the hall, which will be manufactured at the SSI Schäfer Group’s plant in Hranice na Moravě. This platform will house the picking stations for packaging orders and preparing shipments.
Proximity to the production site reduces the CO2 footprint
“From the very beginning, we have tried to keep the transport routes for the delivery of materials before assembly as short as possible. That is why we are making full use of our production facility in Hranice na Moravě, which significantly reduces our CO2 footprint. And, we not only shorten the transport routes but also support the Czech economy,” emphasizes Marian Gono.
