Project STAFFEL by FIR Aims to Revolutionize Road Freight Transport
1. December 2021The volumes transported by rail are increasing at the Lübeck port. The growth is also supported by the LHG subsidiary European Cargo Logistics (ECL). The freight forwarder, focusing on intermodal transport, launched another service to Italy at the end of November. The newly connected terminal is located in Melzo, near Milan. The northern Italian industrial site is initially connected to Lübeck and thus to numerous Baltic Sea ports twice a week.
(Lübeck) The ECL network is steadily growing. The main routes in the portfolio, with a total of 27 departures per week in both directions, are the connections to and from Verona, also in northern Italy, as well as Ludwigshafen and Duisburg. “The trend is increasingly towards climate-friendly transport, and this certainly helps us to continuously expand and densify our rail connection network,” states ECL Managing Director Jörg Ullrich. “Global freight forwarders are specifically inquiring about new routes with us. Together, we can achieve a lot.”
Transport chain from Southern Italy to the Baltic States
Recently, ECL has extended its reach towards the Baltic States. Together with a Latvian partner, the Lübeck company has recently established a connection between Liepāja and Riga. This allows them to offer transport chains that lead, for example, from Southern Italy to the Latvian capital.
