Startup Cargodian Develops Digital Alternative to Letters of Credit

December 2021DKV Mobility, one of the leading mobility service providers in Europe, is introducing the industry’s first eco-friendly fuel and charging card made from recycled PETG plastic (glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate; PET for short). The new sustainable fuel and charging cards from DKV Mobility are made up of 90 percent recycled material.
(Ratingen) The new cards reduce CO2 emissions per card by 42 percent compared to the commonly used PVC cards. The new eco-friendly cards will be issued starting in February 2022.
Marc Erkens, Head of Sustainability, New Mobility and Public Affairs, says: “Plastic waste is a serious global issue that affects us all. By introducing the recycled PETG cards, we are addressing this environmental problem in our industry and can offer our customers the best ecological option without compromising on quality.”
Unlike PVC, recycled PETG does not release harmful substances throughout its entire lifecycle. The recycled PETG is sourced from known and controlled European post-industrial waste streams. Additionally, the cards have successfully passed all required quality tests regarding heat and bending resistance. The new sustainable fuel and charging cards are part of DKV Mobility’s efforts to support the circular economy.
Manufactured in Austria
The advantages of the new card material include reduced use of natural, non-renewable resources, a decreased need for virgin plastics, and the repurposing of waste, which overall leads to a significantly improved CO2 balance. The cards are produced in Austria at a facility that is powered 100 percent by renewable energy.
The transition to the more sustainable material for the fuel and charging cards aligns with DKV Mobility’s corporate purpose: To drive the transition towards an efficient and sustainable future of mobility. DKV Mobility aims to become a climate-positive company by 2023 and to help its customers reduce the CO2 intensity of their fleets by 30% by 2030 compared to the baseline year 2019.
