Kardex Mlog Installs Conveyor System for Nagel Group
8. December 2021The first container ship was processed at the Italian HHLA multipurpose terminal in Trieste, the “OPS Hamburg”, which is chartered and operated by CMA CGM. For the first time, a container ship has called at the Italian multipurpose terminal “Piattaforma Logistica Trieste” (PLT). The “OPS Hamburg” was processed quickly and efficiently.
(Hamburg/Trieste) The ship is operated by the leading shipping and logistics company CMA CGM and is part of its TMX3 service, which connects Turkey weekly with the Adriatic.
Antonio Barbara, Managing Director of HHLA PLT: “We were very pleased to welcome the ‘OPS Hamburg’ at our terminal. The name of the ship is undoubtedly a good omen, reminding us of the connection between Trieste and our majority shareholder HHLA in Hamburg. The feeder ship inaugurates a new regular service from CMA CGM – the TMX3, which connects Turkey with HHLA PLT Italy at the port of Trieste. This TMX3 service is an important step for our terminal. We thank the CMA CGM Group for choosing HHLA PLT Italy.”
Paolo Lo Bianco, Managing Director of CMA CGM Italy: “The TMX3 service offers one of the best transit times between Western Turkey and Northern Adriatic – Italy and Slovenia – with a travel time of three and a half days between Gemlik and Trieste and four days between Gemlik and Koper. Our service is a sustainable alternative to truck transport, which not only reduces CO2 emissions but also optimizes transport duration, frequency, and costs. Intermodal door-to-door solutions, including 45-foot PW containers, complement this product.”
Important Component in the Port of Trieste
The HHLA PLT multipurpose terminal is an important component of the Italian port of Trieste and is located in the free port zone. Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has acquired a majority stake in the terminal. The 27-hectare port facility consists of an area for handling various breakbulk cargoes and a newly constructed area with sufficiently deep berths for RoRo and container ships.
As a logistics hub on the Baltic-Adriatic route, Trieste is not only very well connected to Central and Eastern Europe but also offers connections to the Baltic region. PLT will leverage this strategically important position to strengthen environmentally friendly rail transport with the European hinterland.
