The pre-Christmas season particularly reminds us to think of those who are less fortunate – in Germany, Europe, and worldwide. Logistics plays a crucial role in ensuring that aid deliveries and donations arrive on time before Christmas, where they are needed most.
(Bremen) The distribution of aid goods is not only carried out by logistics on behalf of aid organizations but also out of its own social responsibility.
This year, the level of donations in Germany amounts to a total of 3.8 billion euros, according to the German Donation Council, which is 14 percent higher than in 2020, reaching a new record high. Additionally, there are monetary donations from the German economy for public welfare purposes: The Bertelsmann Foundation estimates in its latest survey on corporate citizenship that this amounts to at least 9.5 billion euros annually. Logistics also contributes significantly to this.
Willingness to Donate in Logistics
The willingness to donate in logistics, as the third-largest economic sector in Germany, is reflected in various actions: Every third logistics professional supports non-profit organizations, churches, social, or charitable institutions with monetary donations. At least one in five companies in the sector engages in volunteer work through in-kind or time donations for people and society. For example, by organizing and transporting clothing donations and gifts for children in poorer regions of Europe. For this purpose, companies not only provide trucks, storage capacities, and IT but can also rely on the willingness of their employees, who take care of the organization and execution.
Helpers with Extra Time
Especially during the pre-Christmas season, when the order situation in logistics is particularly busy, many voluntary helpers take extra time to do something for those who lack many things – true logistics heroes. Thus, logistics ensures that not only the many ordered Christmas gifts but especially the magic of Christmas arrives on time for the celebration.
