LIP Invest secures logistics new construction project in Speyer
13. January 2022The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.) and the logistics service provider Fiege are restructuring their delivery business and have jointly founded Boxit GmbH. The existing business area of nationwide magazine delivery from their joint venture, Medienservice GmbH & Co. KG, which has been established in the market for over 20 years, will be spun off and expanded into Boxit.
(Frankfurt/Greven) Fiege holds 51 percent, while F.A.Z. holds 49 percent of the shares in the newly founded and independent company. The newspaper delivery will continue to be handled by Medienservice GmbH & Co. KG, which delivers around 87 million newspapers annually to its readers with over 260 delivery partners across the country.
“The name Boxit metaphorically means ‘Put it in the mailbox’,” says Michael Röttcher, Managing Director of Fiege’s Last Mile business unit and Managing Director of Boxit. They aim to expand the business field of mailbox-compatible goods in addition to the already existing and rapidly growing magazine business. “So in the future, we will not only deliver magazines but also everything that fits in the mailbox, such as phone cases, batteries, or USB sticks – simply put, all those items that can be sent in a slightly thicker envelope but can still be delivered to the mailbox,” explains Röttcher.
Operate Growth Market of Addressed Advertising More Targetedly
Even before the recent spin-off, two different units were active at Medienservice: one for newspapers and one for magazines. “The already very successful, rapidly growing magazine delivery business will now be operated in an independent company, allowing us to focus even more specifically on the growth market of addressed delivery and the development of new business areas,” explains Dr. Volker Breid, Managing Director of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung GmbH, regarding the spin-off of Boxit.
