BigMile Supports Ricoh Europe in Sustainability
17. January 2022With the opening of a new logistics center in Taulov, Denmark, DB Schenker is once again on a growth trajectory. The new terminal features 87 gates over an area of 90,000 m2 and meets the latest environmental and sustainability standards. Integrated into DB Schenker’s European network, the location connects 430 land transport sites across Europe with a state-of-the-art system designed to meet the growing demand for cross-border transport.
(Essen/Taulov) From Taulov, goods of all kinds are delivered daily to more than 38 European countries. All distribution vehicles are powered by HVO 100 biodiesel, a 100% biofuel that reduces CO2 emissions by at least 90% and NOx emissions by about 30%.
“It is a significant milestone for us to participate in the expansion of our DB Schenker network in Europe,” says Henrik Dam Larsen, DB Schenker CEO in Denmark. “With this important step, DB Schenker has created capacity for growth in the important distribution sector and is now ready to exponentially develop other aspects of the business. We are embarking on an exciting journey this year with a new logistics center and additional new services, and we also welcome new customers and colleagues.”
Around 100 vehicles and drivers from DB Schenker are ready to serve both existing and new customers across Denmark. A key part of DB Schenker’s strategy is to offer sustainable solutions in the logistics chain. “As one of the world’s leading logistics providers, it is our duty to care for the world around us and do something for the environment. That is why we have integrated sustainability aspects into the design of the new logistics center,” says Larsen. Indeed, the focus of the construction project was on ensuring a good working environment and a pleasant indoor climate. The new facility will be heated with heat pumps and powered 100% by certified green energy, which includes 200 m2 of solar panels.
Entire Building Equipped with LED Lighting
The entire building is equipped with LED lighting and features energy-efficient and soundproof windows. All of this makes the logistics center an important part of DB Schenker’s 2040 Zero Emission Program for land transport and contract logistics. The logistics center has also been awarded the DGNB certificate in silver, which is a recognition of the many sustainable decisions made throughout the project.
