Intralogistics Company AGILOX Appoints Helmut Schmid as New CEO
26. January 2022Jungheinrich opens its second plant for the refurbishment of used equipment in Ploiești, Romania. With the new site covering around 5,000 square meters, the company meets the increasing demand for used industrial trucks and creates capacity for further growth.
(Hamburg/Ploiesti) Jungheinrich will now refurbish electric pallet trucks of the EJE type and electric counterbalance forklifts of the EFG type for the European market in Ploiești. With this investment, Jungheinrich is making a statement for the circular economy in intralogistics and enabling the industry to use particularly sustainably refurbished industrial trucks.
Jungheinrich has taken on the challenge as the first industrial company to refurbish industrial trucks industrially and in premium quality. The company promises that its “JUNGSTARS” – the official designation of the used vehicles – are as good as new after refurbishment. With the newly opened refurbishment plant in Ploiești, Jungheinrich is further expanding its existing capacities and optimizing its structures and processes in the area of used equipment. Ploiești is, alongside Dresden, the largest Jungheinrich location for the refurbishment of industrial trucks. With the opening of the new used equipment plant, Jungheinrich will increase its capacities in this area by 25 percent by 2025.
Trend Towards Industrially Refurbished Used Vehicles
Tino Alban, plant manager of the used equipment center in Dresden at Jungheinrich AG: “The general trend towards sustainability is reflected in the continuously increasing demand for our industrially refurbished used vehicles. They are a good solution for environmentally conscious customers, as we save around 80 percent CO2 compared to new production through the refurbishment of used equipment. During the Corona pandemic, many price-conscious customers are turning to the cheaper but simultaneously powerful used equipment, which is ideally suited for low to medium usage times or as standby solutions.”
The industrially unique refurbishment of Jungheinrich used equipment is carried out according to a uniform procedure that is the same for all vehicles, consisting of six steps. In this process, the used vehicles are restored to a technically and visually as-new condition. Jungheinrich’s 5-star principle ensures that each vehicle is refurbished according to the highest safety and sustainability standards and subjected to the strictest quality controls. While components such as frames, motors, and transmissions are refurbished, all safety-relevant and worn components are replaced with original spare parts. Through resource-saving and energy-efficient refurbishment, Jungheinrich extends the lifecycle of the industrial trucks by two to three usage times while minimizing the use of new parts. Currently, a reuse rate of 94 percent per vehicle is achieved.
Tino Alban: “The thorough high-end refurbishment makes our JUNGSTARS used forklifts of the best quality. They combine ecological, economic, and technical advantages, offering a performance diversity that is unique in the market.”
Used Vehicle Plants Also in China and Thailand
While the refurbishment of the EJE and EFG takes place at the Ploiești site, the Dresden plant is responsible for all other vehicle types as well as system vehicles. All European Jungheinrich sales centers supply their vehicles, which mainly come back from rental agreements, for refurbishment to the two plants. In addition, refurbishment for the Asian market takes place in Bangkok and in Qingpu, China.
