January 2022The company Rail Power Systems from Munich has been commissioned today with the execution planning and the construction of the electrification of the four-kilometer-long feeder line and the 16-track shunting group at JadeWeserPort Wilhelmshaven The construction work is set to begin in the middle of this year.
(Wilhelmshaven) The construction work at JadeWeserPort for the approximately 7 million euro expansion of the infrastructure between the “Ölweiche” junction and the port will begin in the middle of the year and will be completed by the timetable change in December 2022, simultaneously with the electrification of the main line Oldenburg – Wilhelmshaven of Deutsche Bahn. Rail Power Systems is a general contractor for railway infrastructure and an internationally leading provider of railway electrification and power supply systems, a subsidiary of Tianjin Keyvia Electric Co., Ltd based in Tianjin, China, and has prevailed in a tender process against other bidders.
The client is the Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven JadeWeserPort-Marketing GmbH & Co. KG, whose managing director Andreas Bullwinkel commented on the award: “With this work, the rail-side infrastructure of Germany’s only container deep-water port will be completed. We are pleased that the expansion measures of the entire railway line between Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven will thus come to an end.”
Dr. Bernd Althusmann, Lower Saxony’s Minister of Economics and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven JadeWeserPort-Marketing GmbH, said: “With the upcoming electrification of the feeder line and the shunting group of the port railway, we are optimizing the rail hinterland connection for JadeWeserPort to offer our national and international customers ideal conditions also on the rail.”
16-Track Shunting Group as a Buffer
The 16-track so-called shunting group functions as a buffer between the container port and the hinterland, connecting to important economic centers in Germany and the industrial regions of Northern Europe. Up to twelve trains at full length can be processed here simultaneously. It is an integral part of the port railway of JadeWeserPort, which directly connects the freight transport center of the port with the hinterland.
