Fiege Establishes Logistics Center in Zaandam, Netherlands
26. January 2022The logistics real estate advisor Logivest brokers 90,000 square meters of logistics space to CATL, the largest manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries in China, in the VGP Park in Magdeburg. According to the new federal government, at least 15 million fully electric cars are to be on German roads by 2030.
(Munich/Magdeburg) Logivest was able to broker around 90,000 square meters of logistics space to the battery experts in the VGP Park Magdeburg. The total of nine units are spread across two halls and comprise approximately 88,000 square meters of storage and nearly 2,500 square meters of office space. Both buildings are currently still under construction and will be individually tailored. The floor load capacity of 7.5 tons was also an important criterion to meet the high demands of EV batteries. A fire protection concept is currently being developed in partnership between VGP and CATL, with the involvement of external fire protection experts. From mid-2022, high-quality lithium-ion batteries for automotive manufacturers across Germany are to be stored and delivered according to manufacturer specifications in Magdeburg.
“We would like to thank Logivest for the good cooperation and support regarding this project,” says Darius Scheible, Managing Director of VGP Industriebau GmbH based in Düsseldorf.
Perfect trimodality in the heart of Germany
Originally looking for a suitable area near the German seaports, the logistics real estate specialists at Logivest convinced CATL based on a thorough location consultation in Magdeburg. “The GVZ Magdeburg combines perfect trimodality in the heart of Germany, making the capital of Saxony-Anhalt an optimal location for the automotive supplier. Our colleagues from Logivisor.com were in contact with the battery specialists regarding another area. When it became clear what dimensions and region CATL was looking for, we were able to leverage our location expertise and find the suitable area,” says Michael Starre, Chief Sales Officer of Logivest.
Good connections by rail, road, and water
The Magdeburg port is one of the most transshipment-intensive inland ports in the country and is independent of water levels due to a low-water lock, allowing loading and unloading at any time. This is an important factor for CATL’s logistics planning, which is also supplied from its Asian plants. Additionally, the state capital is an important hub in the railway network of Deutsche Bahn, and the federal highways A14 and A2 provide excellent road connections to Wolfsburg or Berlin.
