1. February 2022In the fiscal year 2021, based on preliminary figures, Hapag-Lloyd increased its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) to over 12.8 billion US dollars (around 10.9 billion euros). Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) grew to around 11.1 billion US dollars (around 9.4 billion euros). The reason for this positive business development was significantly higher freight rates due to very strong demand for export goods from the Asian region.
(Hamburg) Revenues increased to around 26.4 billion US dollars (approximately 22.3 billion euros), particularly due to the higher average freight rate of 2,003 USD/TEU (2020: 1,115 USD/TEU). The transport volume remained at approximately the same level as the previous year with 11.9 million TEU (2020: 11.8 million TEU) due to strained supply chains. At the same time, significant disruptions in global supply chains led to a substantial increase in transportation costs.
The annual report and the audited financial figures for the year 2021, as well as a forecast for the current fiscal year, will be published on March 10, 2022.
