Kühne+Nagel sends 100 tons of equipment to Beijing

The Olympic Winter Games in Beijing began over the weekend. Kühne+Nagel is the logistical key partner for the German Olympic team, which also includes managing the logistical infrastructure of Team Germany in the Olympic Mountain Cluster near Beijing. The transport of sports equipment and gear for the German athletes is being carried out in an environmentally friendly manner.

(Bremen/Beijing) As the key partner for the Olympic Team Germany and Team Germany Paralympics, Kühne+Nagel has transported 100 tons of cargo from Germany to China in recent weeks – including all sports equipment and the complete gear of the 400-member Team Germany delegation, such as:

• 14 bobs
• 16 luge sleds
• 12 skeleton sleds
• 400 bags of clothing
• Medical devices

During the 16-day duration of the Olympic Games, Kühne+Nagel ensures that the equipment is available at the right time and place, allowing the athletes to focus on their sporting performances. Kühne+Nagel also secures the logistical infrastructure of Team Germany in the Mountain Cluster just outside Beijing.

Since the sports equipment will still be in use by the athletes until shortly before the games, it will be transported by air freight to Beijing and then back after the games. On flights operated by Lufthansa Cargo, Kühne+Nagel uses Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), thereby minimizing the CO2 emissions of the transports.

Intensive preparation for the event

Kühne+Nagel’s leading Expo and Event team has been intensively preparing for the deployment in Beijing over the past months. Due to the pandemic, many planning aspects could only be finalized at the very last minute. Kühne+Nagel is also operating with a significantly reduced team on-site. After the Olympic Winter Games, the team will ensure smooth logistics operations for Team Germany Paralympics at the Paralympic Games.
