NORDFROST Expands Its Frozen Food HUB in Barsinghausen
6. February 2022The logistics consultant LogBer has evaluated the optimization of intralogistic processes at Ellen Wille, the European market leader for second hair products, with a warehouse check-up. This revealed that Ellen Wille had reached the capacity limit in the warehouse, hindering further development.
(Ahrensburg/Schwalbach) The logistical challenges in companies are always very individual. Therefore, the beginning of the warehouse check-up involves an assessment of the current situation, in which the company and project goals are formulated. For example, Ellen Wille had a complex IT infrastructure that required many manual interventions and intermediate steps in the process, offering little transparency in execution. Even more importantly, the capacity limit in the warehouse had been reached. This impeded further growth and the future requirements for batch and inventory separation of the product portfolios used in the medical field.
Quick Assessment and Recommendations for Action
“During the warehouse check-up, we look at the potentials and challenges of logistics in the company and then prepare recommendations for action. We always present various conceptual approaches and initial rough solution proposals, as well as possible variants in comparison, to create a decision-making basis for the next steps,” explains Malte Kröger, Managing Director at LogBer. “The warehouse check-up offers companies the opportunity to generate new solutions, validate ideas, and obtain an investment framework for budgeting projects within a short time frame, usually no more than two months. In the case of Ellen Wille, strategic decisions regarding location, automation technology, and IT infrastructure could be evaluated, budgeted, and scheduled within two months,” he adds.
The warehouse check-up analyzes areas including infrastructure, warehouse and process technology, warehouse management and control systems, as well as personnel, organization, and processes in an end-to-end approach. Important for the customer: They receive not only a long-term timeline plan with various measures—at Ellen Wille designed as a phased concept for 2025/2030—but also an investment cost estimate. This incorporates the experience from countless projects and direct contact with many companies and manufacturers from various industries.
Warehouse Check-up with Clear Timeline and Transparent Cost Estimate
“The optimization of internal logistics processes and capacities was a prerequisite for ensuring our dynamic growth in the future. Through the warehouse check-up by LogBer, we received a very detailed analysis of the current state,” explains Ralf Billharz, CEO of Ellen Wille. At the same time, one benefits from the different future scenarios that the warehouse check-up presents: “They provide a very good decision-making basis for location, technology, and internal organization. We view the warehouse check-up as a ‘growing’ logistics tool. The expertise of LogBer has significantly contributed to quickly implementing processes and identifying internal dysfunctions. As a whole team, we have jointly benefited from a very steep learning curve.”
