Flexport Secures $935 Million Funding Round
7. February 2022The express service trans-o-flex has put the first two electric vehicles into operation for its fleet of more than 200 company cars in January. “We have decided to transition the entire company car fleet to vehicles with electric drive,” said CEO Wolfgang P. Albeck. “For us, this is another step towards our goal of being CO2-neutral across the entire company by 2045.”
(Weinheim) In the truck sector, trans-o-flex, according to Albeck, is still forced to largely rely on modern diesel drives after various tests of electrically powered delivery vehicles. “As a specialist in the transport of sensitive goods, especially pharmaceuticals, our requirements for range, payload, and cooling capacity are currently not met by electric vehicles. We are constantly testing new models, but so far we can only use them for selected, specific routes without jeopardizing our performance promise.”
The new company car policy at trans-o-flex stipulates that from now on, all employees receiving a new vehicle can choose one of three models with pure electric drive or hybrid drive. The vehicles are not only quieter, but their CO2 emissions are significantly lower than those of the previous diesel drives. According to manufacturer specifications, the CO2 emissions of the three vehicle types that the company car fleet will consist of in the future are 0 g/km (combined highway and city traffic) for the Skoda ENYAQ 60 iV (fully electric). For the plug-in hybrids Skoda Superb 1.4 tsi and Skoda Octavia 1.4 tsi, the emissions are 30 g/km.
The first two electric company vehicles are being driven by two new sustainability managers at trans-o-flex. The goal of these positions, created in the last quarter of 2021, is primarily the further development and planning of trans-o-flex’s sustainability strategy as well as the implementation of plans into concrete management processes. Together with a team of specialists, their tasks also include the development of suitable key figures and contacts with environmental protection organizations, energy and waste management associations, and research and development institutions in the field of sustainability.
Let sustainability have an impact both internally and externally
“In the spirit of a holistic sustainability concept, we want to have an impact both internally and externally, on employees as well as on customers and partners,” adds CEO Albeck. “Therefore, our sustainability managers and their team will also develop and implement concepts to raise environmental awareness and social engagement, refine our annual emissions balance, take care of customer-specific CO2 accounting, and regularly engage with the departments to further reduce CO2 emissions operationally.”
