February 2022Robert Mærsk Uggla will be appointed as the new Chairman of the Board after the company’s Annual General Meeting on March 15, 2022, and Marc Engel as the new Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of A. P. Moller – Maersk. Jim Hagemann Snabe and Ane Maersk Mc-Kinney Uggla are stepping down but will remain connected to the company.
(Kopenhagen) The current Chairman Jim Hagemann Snabe and Vice Chairwoman Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla will not stand for re-election to the Board of A.P. Moller – Maersk at the company’s Annual General Meeting. Jim Hagemann Snabe will continue to serve as an advisor to the new Chairman and the Board.
Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla has been a member of the Board of Directors of AP Moller – Maersk since 1991 and has served as Vice Chairwoman since 2003. Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla is also the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of AP Moller Holding, which initiated the transformation in 2016.
Vice Chairwoman Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla says: “The transformation of AP Moller – Maersk into an integrated container logistics company is well underway thanks to the efforts of the Board, the management led by Søren Skou, and the many dedicated employees. After three decades on the Board, it is time for me to pass the responsibility to Robert, who has been a driving force in the development of A.P. Moller – Maersk during his 7 years on the Board. I want to thank Jim for his important role in the transformation, which he has carried out with persistence and loyalty to the history, name, and long-term interests of the company. Jim hands over a strong company and a solid foundation for further development, and I look forward to continuing to benefit from Jim’s knowledge and insight.”
The timing of the generational change is right
Chairman Jim Hagemann Snabe says: “It has been a privilege to be part of the reinvention of this unique company. The focus on the core business and the development of new capabilities in logistics, digitalization, and sustainability have been key to the transformation of the company.” Robert has comprehensively accompanied and significantly shaped the restructuring and transformation during his time on the Board. Therefore, the timing of the generational change is well chosen. I know that Robert will engage with the newly created momentum, and I look forward to contributing to the further development of the company in my role as an advisor to Robert and the rest of the Board.”
Continuing the transformation
Robert Mærsk Uggla says: “I am very honored to accept the nomination as Chairman of the company. We initiated the restructuring and renewal of AP Moller – Maersk in 2016 and have come a long way on many fronts. I am grateful to Ane and Jim for their contributions to the company and their personal support in the future as well. I look forward to continuing the transformation of AP Moller – Maersk in close collaboration with Marc Engel, the Board, and the management.”
Marc Engel has been a member of the Board of Directors of A.P. Moller – Maersk since 2019 and sits on the Transformation & Innovation Committee of the Board. Marc Engel is the outgoing Chief Supply Chain Officer of Unilever and has extensive leadership experience in global operations and supply chains, logistics, procurement, and sustainability.
