DEKRA Offers Compliance Package for Fleet Managers
17. February 2022New statistics show that Volvo Trucks was the market leader for heavy all-electric trucks in Europe in 2021, with a market share of 42%. In 2021, the company received global orders, including letters of intent, for more than 1,100 E-trucks. Switzerland leads in the registration of E-trucks in Europe.
(Ismaning) The international truck industry is undergoing a transformation towards more sustainable transportation, as evidenced by the increasing sales of heavy battery-powered electric trucks. Europe plays a pioneering role in this. The number of all-electric trucks in commercial traffic is steadily rising.
Statistics from the market analysis group IHS Markit show that in 2021, a total of 346 electric trucks (≥16 tons) were registered in Europe, representing an increase of 193% compared to 2020. Volvo Trucks holds the largest market share at 42%. The countries in Europe with the most registered E-trucks (≥16 tons) are, in order, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Germany ranks fifth. *
Driving the Revolution Forward
“We are determined to drive the revolution of electric trucks forward. Our market-leading position in Europe is proof that we are doing just that. Even though the numbers are still small, we see a rapidly growing interest, both in Europe and North America, as well as in other parts of the world. In 2021, we received orders – including letters of intent – for more than 1,100 trucks from over 20 countries. I am convinced that offering electric, emission-free transportation will become a decisive competitive advantage,” says Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.
Volvo Trucks began series production of E-trucks in 2019 as one of the first truck brands in the world. When production of the heavy all-electric models Volvo FH, Volvo FM, and Volvo FMX begins this fall, Volvo will have the most comprehensive electric product range in the global truck industry. Volvo has delivered electric vehicles to a variety of customers in Europe, North America, and Australia. Volvo Trucks aims to have 50% of its sales come from electric vehicles by 2030.
Strong Sales Start
“These figures clearly show that we have made a very good sales start. With the broader offering of electric trucks, it will be possible to electrify almost half of heavy road transport. This share will increase as the range of electric trucks improves and the charging infrastructure for heavy trucks continues to expand,” says Roger Alm.
