7. March 2022With the first concrete pillars, the terminal construction of the Rieck Logistics Group in Oberkrämer, Brandenburg, started today. The setting of the pillars was accompanied by Detlef Helsing, Managing Director of System Freight Forwarding at Rieck Logistics Group, and Julian Frewer, Project Manager of VGP Industriebau GmbH – the VGP Group is developing the new building.
(Grossbeeren/Oberkrämer) With an investment sum of around 26 million euros, the new forwarding facility of Rieck is being built in the VGP Park Berlin-Oberkrämer in the northwest of Berlin. It is expected to go into operation in August 2022. “We are pleased that our building is now rising after the timely completion of the earthworks – with the first pillars as a clearly visible sign,” says Stefan Rieck, Managing Partner of the Rieck Logistics Group.
On the 67,000 square meter site in Oberkrämer, excavators have been rolling since last autumn. They prepared the site for the actual start of construction.
Proven Partnership
The new building is being constructed by the VGP Group, a European provider of high-quality logistics and commercial real estate. “With the current construction project, we are continuing our successful collaboration with the Rieck Logistics Group,” says Darius Scheible, Managing Director of VGP Industriebau GmbH. “In Rade near Hamburg, we already built a logistics terminal for the Rieck Group in 2017 and have come to appreciate Rieck as a reliable and growth-oriented partner.”
The new Rieck terminal will have approximately 23,000 square meters of usable space. About half of the area is designated for shipment handling, 8,000 square meters for storage space, and 3,000 square meters for offices. A total of 103 loading and unloading gates will facilitate smooth goods entry and exit. A solar roof will produce green electricity, and charging stations for electric vehicles underscore the sustainability claim.
The concrete pillars set today mark the start of construction, with a total of 170 pillars to be installed. In just a few weeks, the skeleton of the building will be visible on the site in the VGP Park. The roof structure and side walls will then be installed on this framework. The interior construction is planned, with the installation of shelving systems, furniture, and forklifts already scheduled for July.
Ideal Location in the Growth Region of Berlin
With the property in the northwest of Berlin, the Rieck Logistics Group is significantly expanding its capacities in the capital region. Rieck has been operating its headquarters southeast of the capital in Grossbeeren for 20 years and also has a logistics location in Berlin-Schönefeld as well as a location for air freight shipments at BER. “In the Berlin area, our shipment volumes have increased significantly in recent years,” explains Stefan Rieck. “And we see great potential in the region for the future. Now, together with VGP, we are creating the capacities to continue growing in the future.”
The conveniently located new Rieck site at the Berlin motorway ring (A10) is ideal not only for receiving and shipping goods – future employees can also quickly reach the terminal. “We are creating over 80 new jobs on site, of which not all are filled yet,” says Detlef Helsing. “We look forward to starting operations in August with a young, dedicated team.”
