DHL and Singapore Airlines Sign Contract for Five Cargo Aircraft
10. March 2022A trendy product reaches the facilities of the Lübeck Port Company (LHG): The shipping company Stena Line is currently transporting “Tiny Houses” built in Latvia on its route between Liepāja and Lübeck. Two ships operate this route six times a week in each direction. The transport of the houses requires special handling.
(Lübeck) Loading the ten-meter-long and five-meter-wide modules onto a truck at the Skandinavienkai requires a lot of finesse and teamwork: Two heavy port machines, known as reachstackers, one of which is brand new, are needed for this task. They lift the “Tiny House” from both sides in parallel and place the fourteen-ton load onto a low-loader. The truck then takes over the further transport to the Netherlands.
The house modules are fully tiled and come with a built-in kitchen. Latvia has made a name for itself as a producer of these increasingly popular living units. Stena Line expressed great satisfaction with the transshipment. “Five-meter-wide modules are something very special,” admits Lennart Berg, who is responsible for project cargo sales at the shipping company’s office in Travemünde. “That was delicate work!”
Challenging Task Successfully Completed
Operations manager Marcus Clasen notes: “Project cargo is always a welcome change in our tightly scheduled workday.” His colleague Holger Dührkop adds: “That was a challenging task; hats off to the colleagues who handled it very well.”
