April 2022The Kombiverkehr KG will operate the route between Cologne-Eifeltor and the “Rail Hub Milano” in Melzo (25 km east of Milan) five times a week (Monday to Friday) in both directions starting April 25. The route passes through Switzerland and the St. Gotthard Tunnel. Sattelauflieger with the P400 profile can be transported.
(Frankfurt/Main) Kombiverkehr KG is expanding its train services with a new north-south connection via Gotthard. From April 25, the Cologne-Eifeltor terminal will have a direct train connection to and from Melzo in northern Italy. With this new offering, the Frankfurt-based company increases its service offering to and from Italy within Europe’s largest intermodal network to now more than 260 train departures per week. The destination in Melzo is the Rail Hub Milano. “The terminal, located about 25 kilometers east of Milan, is a proven starting and ending point for the road-side pre- and post-haulage of goods and products to and from the industrial and commercial companies in the Milan economic area.
Transit Times of Only 20 Hours
With a transit time of only 20 hours, we provide freight forwarders with the opportunity for a fast and extremely environmentally friendly transport chain,” emphasizes Peter Dannewitz, Head of Sales at Kombiverkehr KG, highlighting two features of the new offering. When transporting 25 tons of cargo, 2.6 tons of CO2 are saved in the round trip, which represents a saving of more than 80 percent compared to continuous road traffic.
Forwarding Services to Hamburg, Kiel, and Lübeck
The traffic days are Monday to Friday in both directions. In addition to containers and swap bodies, Sattelauflieger with P400 profile can be booked. From Cologne, forwarding services to Hamburg, the German Baltic Sea ports of Kiel and Lübeck, as well as terminals in Denmark and Sweden are accessible.
