Innovations for Automation and Digital Transformation
21. April 2022The French freight car rental company Atir Rail will equip its fleet starting in May with the sensor-controlled gateway device Globehopper 3.0 from Nexxiot. The data sent from the Globehopper 3.0 to the Nexxiot cloud provides information about the condition of wagons and their cargo. With the real-time transmitted data, fleet operations become more transparent, efficient, and environmentally friendly.
(Zurich/Paris) In addressing how to stabilize the currently fragile supply chains and shift more truck traffic to the more environmentally friendly rail transport, telematics hardware and software systems for managing wagon fleets are playing an increasingly important role. For transparent and efficient fleet management, the French wagon rental company Atir Rail will rely on the innovative technologies of the TradeTech company Nexxiot starting next month. Maintenance-free, durable sensor-controlled hardware and software, intelligent algorithms, and data evaluations from Nexxiot support the company in achieving clearly defined goals: better fleet utilization, optimization of fleet operations, improvement of maintenance and repair planning for rail wagons, and process automation.
Implementation Starting May 2022
In May, Atir Rail will begin implementing the Globehopper 3.0 from Nexxiot. The freight car rental company will gradually introduce the new data-driven service to customers over the course of the coming year. The sensor-equipped gateway device Globehopper 3.0 is certified for use in explosion-prone areas according to the ATEX product directive and HAZLOC standard. The data captured by the sensors on the device will be promptly transmitted to the Nexxiot Connect Intelligent Cloud. They provide real-time information that allows continuous monitoring of location, current mileage, and the status of the wagon and cargo. As a result, operational performance and service quality increase, which also contributes to the sustainability goals of all parties involved. Ultimately, end customers also benefit from the innovative technology, as processes become more transparent, reliable, and predictable.
Optimizing Inefficient Routes
The TradeTech company Nexxiot places great importance on the sustainability gains associated with this technology. Nexxiot aims to reduce CO2 emissions in global supply chains by five percent. To achieve this goal, empty trips should be reduced, inefficient routes optimized, and operational errors eliminated. Additionally, the recycling of technical components is part of the company’s environmental protection principles, which also includes a long lifespan for the hardware developed by Nexxiot. “Delivering durable top quality is a central part of our corporate principles,” explains Stefan Kalmund, CEO of Nexxiot. “As a driving force in the emerging TradeTech industry and a pioneer in the digitization of global supply chains, we take our responsibility very seriously. We know how important transport safety and sustainability are for our clients. With the technology we have developed, we support our customers in achieving their long-term strategic and economic goals,” adds Kalmund.
