Arvato Supply Chain Solutions Continues to Grow in China
26. April 2022In the hour of greatest need, Petersen Mordhorst Logistics GmbH (PML) stands by the Ukrainian people. They delivered a truckload of 34 pallets (12 tons) of aid supplies to the Ukraine for the German-Ukrainian Society in Kiel. The journey did not end at the border; the truck even drove 35 km into Ukraine.
(Kiel) “When the German-Ukrainian Society asked me about transport options to Ukraine, I immediately agreed,” says Gaston Petersen, owner and managing director of PM Logistics GmbH. “Initially, I agreed to transport only to the Polish-Ukrainian border. But after I informed myself about the procedure for crossing the border, I decided that the truck would drive 35 km into Ukraine to a designated meeting point.”
Initially, PM Logistics picked up the donations with 7.5-ton trucks, including a lift, from four loading points and consolidated them in their own warehouse. To load the truck, a 40-tonner, with as many aid supplies as possible, blankets, sleeping bags, pumps, clothing, food, etc., had to be repacked from 65 to 34 pallets. Thus, all collected goods, totaling 12 tons, made their way to Ukraine.
Two Drivers Volunteered
On March 18, the journey began. The truck, manned by two PML truck drivers who volunteered, set off on the 1,200-kilometer route. After 9 hours of waiting at the Polish-Ukrainian border, the PML truck was allowed to enter Ukraine on a special lane. Just one day later, on March 19, the goods could be unloaded at the meeting point, sorted, and loaded onto sprinters for further transport to the crisis areas.
Late in the evening on March 20, the two drivers and the truck returned to Kiel. And the two drivers agree: “We would go back to Ukraine to help at any time.”
