BTK Celebrates Groundbreaking for New Office Building in Raubling
2. May 2022Since January 2021, DHL Global Forwarding has been neutralizing carbon emissions for all its less-than-container-load (LCL) shipments in ocean freight. As one of the world’s leading ocean freight forwarders, DHL is committed to sustainable and clean ocean freight as part of Deutsche Post DHL Group’s “Mission 2050: Zero Emissions.”
(Bonn) By using certified sustainable marine fuels, DHL has saved a total of 36,300 tons of Tank-to-Wheel1 CO2 emissions for port-to-port LCL shipments. Additionally, last year, 52,800 tons of CO2 emissions (Well-to-Wheel2) related to pickups from and transports to ports were offset.
“Since the beginning of our decarbonization process for LCL shipments in ocean freight, we have used sustainable fuels for 370,599 shipments. We now provide more than 2,500 customers with our GoGreen Plus service for LCL shipments, supporting them in achieving their sustainability goals at no extra cost. This is an important milestone for DHL Global Forwarding and demonstrates that by promoting sustainable logistics solutions in ocean freight, we are on the right track to contribute to climate protection. Motivated by this great success, we have decided to continue the decarbonization of all LCL transports at no additional cost to our customers,” explains Dominique von Orelli, Global Head of Ocean Freight at DHL Global Forwarding.
Green Solutions for Climate-Friendly Logistics
Sustainability and measures to limit global warming to below 1.5 degrees are the most pressing issues of our time and require a systematic and strategic approach from both the public and private sectors. As part of its ESG strategy, Deutsche Post DHL Group aims to reduce all its emissions to net zero by 2050 (“Mission 2050”) and relies on green solutions for climate-friendly logistics. In particular, ocean freight is a rapidly growing source of greenhouse gas emissions in the logistics industry. For this reason, DHL, as a leading logistics provider, is committed to providing sustainable logistics solutions and access to sustainable fuels that contribute to the decarbonization of the entire logistics sector. DHL’s GoGreen Plus service facilitates the transition to clean and sustainable ocean and air freight transport.
GoGreen Plus Offers Various Options
With GoGreen Plus, DHL offers its customers various options to minimize logistics-related emissions and other environmental impacts throughout the entire supply chain. This way, CO2 emissions in air and ocean freight are reduced, and the rest of the supply chain is made climate-neutral through emissions offsetting over the entire lifecycle. The GoGreen Plus product offering is part of the company’s mid-term sustainability roadmap aimed at 2030 and supports the partial goal of covering at least 30 percent of fuel needs with sustainable fuels. To reduce CO2 emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement, the group will invest 7 billion euros in sustainable fuels and clean technologies by 2030.
