BVL Expects Even Stronger Disruptions in Supply Chains
9. May 202228 events at various locations with around 800 participants – for a total of ten days, safety was the focus for the companies of the HGK Group. During the 2nd edition of the Safety Week, evacuations were practiced, training sessions were held, and rescue simulations were conducted. Additionally, there were health seminars, site inspections, driving training, and a booster vaccination campaign.
(Köln) “I am very pleased that, after our first action week last year, the second edition has also been so well received by our employees. This shows me that our safety culture is truly being lived,” explains HGK CEO Uwe Wedig. He is certain that there will be another group-wide theme week next year under the motto “Safety takes us home.”
Simulations for Emergencies
From trainees to executives, employees participated in the program. For example, HGK Shipping and the HGK subsidiary RheinCargo successfully practiced a rescue operation in Neuss – a person had fallen from a ship into the harbor basin. At the Ladenburg location, the local fire department, together with Neska personnel, organized the rescue of individuals from a smoke-filled building. At CTS in the Niehler Hafen in Cologne, the terminal area and the administrative building were evacuated due to a perceived threat. At the Godorfer Hafen station, a simulated emergency occurred with leaking methanol and an unconscious person.
“The feedback from those responsible for the exercises has been overwhelmingly positive; most processes function smoothly. If there are suggestions for improvement, our safety officers will meticulously investigate these points and refine them if necessary; these exercises are very important for that,” summarizes Uwe Wedig.
