10. May 2022Jungheinrich starts construction of its new plant in Chomutov, Czech Republic. With a groundbreaking ceremony, Sabine Neuß, Chief Technology Officer of Jungheinrich AG, along with representatives from the relevant construction development, local politics, and business, initiated the start of construction last Friday, May 6, 2022.
(Hamburg/Chomutov) An energy-efficient and CO2-optimized new building for the production of reach trucks is being constructed on approximately 37,000 square meters. More than 350 new jobs will be created on-site. The construction is being carried out in collaboration with the real estate developer Panattoni using the built-to-suit method and is expected to be completed in spring 2023. The project budget amounts to around 60 million euros.
Starting in 2023, Jungheinrich will produce the current generation of its reach trucks, the ETV 216i from the POWERLiNE, in Chomutov. For the company, the new plant represents a central component in achieving growth targets as part of the 2025+ strategy and enhancing its long-term competitiveness.
Sabine Neuß, Chief Technology Officer of Jungheinrich AG: “With our new plant, we are expanding our capacities within our production network in Europe and ensuring early on that we can meet the persistently strong demand for Jungheinrich material handling equipment in the future. We are building one of the most modern manufacturing facilities in the world in Chomutov, which will elevate our production to the next level.”
Focus on Efficiency and Sustainability
The strategic corporate goal of creating sustainable value is being consistently implemented by Jungheinrich in the design of the site, with a particular emphasis on efficiency and sustainability in the new building. Modern technology is being used throughout the entire plant equipment, from the workplace to the complex production facility: for example, a new production control system will be implemented. In addition to sourcing green electricity, the installation of a heat pump is planned, and special thermal insulation in the office block will ensure additional energy savings. Water consumption will be reduced through the use of a rainwater harvesting system. A 1.5-hectare green space with native trees and shrubs is also planned to promote local biodiversity. The building aims to achieve certification with the sustainability standard Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) at the “Excellent” level.
Production Start Planned for Mid-2023
Completion is scheduled for spring 2023, and Jungheinrich aims to start production in mid-2023. As a traditional region for lignite mining, Chomutov is shaped by the current structural change. The new Jungheinrich production site will create more than 350 new jobs in the region.
