HGK develops industrial and logistics area in northern Cologne
12. May 2022The online platform shopdaheim was founded in 2020 by the booksellers Thalia Mayersche and Osiander with the aim of supporting local trade in its digitalization. Thalia has now launched a two-month pilot phase in Düsseldorf together with the logistics service provider Fiege, during which logistics services and payment options will be added to the already existing offerings of shopdaheim.
(Hagen/Greven/Düsseldorf) “Customers from Düsseldorf and the surrounding area can contact their retailers via Shopdaheim, pay for their goods online, and have their packages delivered to their homes on the same day,” says Felix Hettlage, Managing Director at Fiege in the Last Mile division. The payment for purchases is made via the payment service PayPal, and the shipping of goods is handled by the shipping service provider Shipcloud.
During the pilot phase, the same-day pickup and premium courier service from Angel bringt’s can also be used for timely delivery of goods. “A package does not necessarily have to be transported across Germany before it reaches the customer. It can also simply come from the city where one lives – and be shipped by the retailer one knows and appreciates,” Hettlage further explains.
Great Opportunities for Retail
Because customers want to support their local retailers – but without having to forego smart online services that make shopping easier. Informing and advising their own customer base online offers independent retailers great opportunities to build stable customer relationships and stay in touch – even outside regular opening hours. This is exactly where shopdaheim comes in with features such as digital appointment scheduling, personal consultations via video and chat functions, or an individual retailer newsletter. All service offerings can be tested on the platform free of charge and without complications.
Leveraging Existing Logistics Structures
Significantly shorter delivery routes, fewer transport kilometers by leveraging existing and regional logistics structures, as well as a very low shipping price of only five euros speak in favor of this innovative and new offering.
Roland Kölbl, Managing Director of E-Commerce, Omnichannel Marketing & IT at Thalia, says: “Sustainable, playfully simple, at any time, in any place. This is how people wish to shop. With the expansion of the shopdaheim platform as part of our pilot project, we want to bring customer and retailer needs together in new ways and thus contribute to the future viability of the industry.”
