HOYER Group presents good results for 2021
18. May 2022Logistics experts from LogBer GmbH implemented innovative logistics solutions in the new warehouse of FoodOase in Geesthacht in 2021. The centerpiece is an AutoStore picking system, which is currently being expanded. Through automation, FoodOase GmbH can save about 70 percent of storage space. Logistic staff shortages are a thing of the past.
(Ahrensburg/Geesthacht) The performance of an AutoStore system is impressive: A multitude of robots operate in high volume on a grid structure made of aluminum rails, beneath which hundreds of bins are located in a modular system. These bins are filled with various items from the product range. The robots transport the bins to a workstation (port), where the employee retrieves the desired goods, and the bin is then stored again.
Concept Allows Flexible Adjustments
At the FoodOase location in Geesthacht, there are 6,100 bins on an area of approximately 220 m2, with 16 bins stacked on top of each other in the grid. The introduction of the AutoStore system at FoodOase was planned by the experts at LogBer GmbH. A particular challenge was cooling chocolate-coated items during the summer months. Since there is currently no standard system solution for cooling the AutoStore system, a customized concept was developed and implemented in collaboration with a refrigeration technician.
About a year after going live, the first AutoStore expansion is already in full swing: In addition to an extra area of around 300 m2, more ports, robots, and cooling systems are being added. The spatial buffer that can now be utilized was deliberately considered at the beginning of the project planning in November 2019: “With years of experience in food logistics, we know how important concepts are that allow for continuous expansions and the easy integration of new technologies,” explains Annchristin Sollner, project staff member and logistics planner at LogBer.
More Performance, Capacity, and Efficiency
Through automation, FoodOase GmbH can save about 70 percent of storage space. Logistic staff shortages are a thing of the past, and performance and efficiency are increasing. Additional advantages include the very high protection of goods in the bins, which protect against light, dust, and temperature influences, as well as rapid scalability. Sandra Neuber, managing director of FoodOase, emphasizes the high flexibility that arises from the AutoStore system and is already evident: “As we can currently see, we can flexibly expand the state-of-the-art facility as needed without major interruptions in ongoing operations. This prepares us excellently for the logistical challenges of the coming years. Continuous adjustment and expansion of shipping and storage capacities are fundamental to achieving long-term increasing revenues.”
Responsible for Planning Since 2019
As part of the expansion, further measures are being implemented. Among other things, warehouse lifts for handling fresh bread items and bulky goods will be integrated, as well as a shelving system.
LogBer has been responsible for planning the various measures since the project began in November 2019 and additionally supports the analysis, consulting, implementation, and tendering in the individual project phases.
