19. May 2022The Economic Makers are promoting logistics as an employer at the largest European intralogistics trade fair LogiMAT from May 31 to June 2, 2022, in Stuttgart. The shortage of skilled workers has long since arrived in logistics. Germany’s third-largest economic sector (293 billion euros in revenue in 2021) is not only desperately seeking professional drivers.
(Bremen/Stuttgart) There are also open positions in other areas of the supply chain, such as IT specialists and project managers. At LogiMAT – the world’s largest intralogistics trade fair – the Economic Makers aim to attract more allies for their common cause. The image initiative aims to inspire young professionals and career changers to pursue a job in logistics.
“In addition to raising public awareness of the importance of logistics, it is equally important for us to engage more companies within the economic sector to showcase the diversity of logistics. Intralogistics, for example, is a leader in the fields of digitization, automation, and robotics and serves as a shining example against the old prejudice that logistics is not innovative,” explains Economic Makers spokesperson Frauke Heistermann. “That’s why LogiMAT is an important platform for us, especially regarding the external perception of the solutions presented there for newcomers to the profession.”
Debunking Prejudices
Debunking prejudices about logistics is one of the central campaigns of the Economic Makers this year. This includes numerous actions on social media, including short spots where logistics fans explain what they enjoy about their work. This is urgently needed, as indicated by a representative survey on the logistics job market conducted by Amazon, which was accompanied by Prof. Christian Kille from the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt FHWS. According to the survey, people under 26 years old rate their career opportunities in logistics significantly worse than respondents over 50 years old who have already had professional contact with logistics.
Promoting the Image of Logistics Louder
According to the survey results, working in Germany’s third-largest economic sector is associated with rather simple, monotonous tasks using outdated technology. Only a few participants see attractive career opportunities in logistics for skilled workers and graduates. “This does not reflect reality at all, and that’s why we as an economic sector need to promote the image of logistics louder and more sustainably and set a sign for the diversity of our jobs,” demands Frauke Heistermann.
Ideal Platform for the Initiative’s Topics
LogiMAT is considered the leading event for intralogistics in Europe and offers an ideal platform to draw attention to the central themes of the initiative, with an expected 50,000 visitors. For this purpose, “The Economic Makers” will be represented with their own booth (East Entrance / EO57), visually aligned with the current campaign “No Day Without Logistics.” Additionally, 13 collaborators will present themselves with their own booths at the fair, ensuring a strong presence for the community.
