The Implementation of Urban Logistics Systems Lags Behind Ideas
19. May 2022With the help of WAVES’ Sustainability Management Platform (SMP), companies of all sizes and industries can determine their CO2 footprint and position themselves more sustainably. The Aachen-based tour planning expert gts systems and consulting has now received its own interface to the world’s first modular cloud platform for corporate sustainability management. gts partners can now benefit from precise carbon footprint calculations.
(Luxembourg/Aachen) In the freight forwarding, transport, and logistics industry, sustainability and climate protection are becoming increasingly important alongside economic aspects. Stricter regulations and growing customer pressure mean that companies must keep an eye on and actively reduce the CO2 emissions of their tours and production processes. A smart solution is offered by the startup WAVES with its SMP and its product Sustainable Transport. “To process the large data volumes in the logistics environment, powerful systems are needed that allow for quick identification of the largest energy consumers, defining savings targets, and initiating concrete measures for reduction,” says WAVES CEO Armin Neises. The cloud-based Sustainability Management Platform (SMP) from WAVES provides reliable carbon footprint calculations and detailed evaluations.
Identifying savings potentials
The Aachen-based tour planning expert gts systems and consulting provides its partners with TransIT, a proprietary software solution that handles complex tour and route planning. Various parameters such as fleet size, loading, fuel costs, personnel availability, and traffic restrictions are included in the calculations. With the data obtained, logistics providers can identify savings potentials, for example, in the number of trucks used. With the new interface to WAVES’ SMP, gts’ optimization software will also assist in optimizing the sustainability balance in the future. Transport and freight forwarding companies can have the CO2 values of their tours and production processes calculated precisely to reveal savings opportunities in the area of greenhouse gas emissions and ultimately make decisions in favor of economic efficiency and sustainability.
Determining CO2 emissions without great effort
“With WAVES, we have gained a partner that is intensively engaged with the topic of sustainability and brings significant expertise in this regard,” says Sascha Egener, Head of Partner Account Management at gts. “Thanks to the fully automated data import via our interface, customers can now determine their individual CO2 emissions without much effort. Not only do we notice in practice: The CO2 footprint is increasingly becoming a hard selling argument rather than a soft one.” The close collaboration between WAVES and gts brings significant advantages for both partners.
Utilizing existing data
WAVES can leverage the customer-specific gts algorithms – for example, regarding distance, utilization, and capacity of transports – and receives information such as the exact weight specifications when loading a vehicle, which affect the CO2 emissions of the transport. The result: an even more comprehensive data basis for the calculations and analyses of WAVES’ SMP. “When we feed our system with even more diverse and accurate data, the results that can be obtained with the SMP will become increasingly precise,” explains Armin Neises. “As we are primarily sustainability experts, we are very pleased about partnerships with logistics experts like gts, who help us further develop our products.”
About WAVES
WAVES was founded in 2019 in Luxembourg with the vision of making sustainability visible through digitalization. With its innovation, the Sustainability Management Platform (SMP), WAVES offers its B2B customers from various industries carbon footprint calculations and diverse sustainability analyses, enabling decision-makers to align their companies more sustainably. The fact that WAVES has hit the nerve of the times with its “Platform as a Service” solution is also evidenced by prestigious awards: In 2021, the startup was already awarded the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label and named Cloud Tech Innovator Of The Year for its innovative SMP. In 2022, the label “Made in Luxembourg” and a World Summit Award in the category “Environment & Green Energy” were added.
