The Club of Logistics convened on the topic of “World Economy in Transition”
23. May 2022Building on the charter agreement that has existed since winter 2020 between Lufthansa Cargo and EgeTrans Internationale Spedition GmbH, over 100 charter flights, i.e., freight transports in passenger aircraft, have now been carried out for the transport company from Marbach am Neckar. The aircraft used were primarily Airbus A340 and partially Airbus A350 from Lufthansa Passage, exclusively for EgeTrans.
(Frankfurt/Main) They serve the route from Frankfurt to Chicago and transport an average of around 37 tons of freight per flight. On board the aircraft are shipments for agricultural technology as well as for the automotive, commercial vehicle, and hydraulic industries, which can thus be transported quickly from Baden-Württemberg to the USA. During peak times, up to five charters flew weekly in the summer of 2021 alone, including round trips.
“The organization of such charter cycles requires precise coordination with our customers, but also with all parties involved, such as Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Passage, and Lufthansa Technik. We are proud to have established such a reliable and resilient process chain for the respective freight needs during these special times. In the future, our focus will also be on utilizing and offering synergies and capacities in the best possible way for our customers,” explains Achim Martinka, Vice President Germany of Lufthansa Cargo.
Communication works perfectly
“The communication with the contacts at Lufthansa Cargo works perfectly and is always to our complete satisfaction. We are proud that the close cooperation with the Lufthansa Cargo team in Stuttgart is not limited to charters but that we also have freight capacities available three times a week on both freighters and passenger aircraft to Chicago with Lufthansa Cargo,” adds Florian Naujocks, Head of Air Freight at EgeTrans.
Important contribution to supply
In light of reduced cargo capacities in passenger aircraft, Lufthansa Cargo has been regularly enabling pure freight transports in specially converted passenger planes since 2020, which could not often be used in regular scheduled service due to the pandemic. Since March 2020, Lufthansa Cargo has conducted numerous charter flights worldwide, repeatedly demonstrating the importance of fast and reliable air transport. In this way, it makes an important contribution by supplying businesses worldwide with essential goods even during the pandemic, allowing them to continue their production and maintain supply chains. The transport of urgently needed goods, including medicines or medical equipment, has also been ensured in this way.
