Swiss Post Hands Over Its Drone Operations to Matternet
1. June 2022After just over ten months of construction, the family-owned company Fiege has completed its new multi-user center in the Peine-Ost industrial area near Hanover. The approximately 30,000 square meters of logistics space on the roughly 65,000 square meter site are divided into three hall sections. In addition, two adjacent office buildings provide the logistics service provider from Westphalia Greven with the opportunity to meet its growth trajectory in the consumer products sector.
(Greven/Peine) The operational business is currently in the ramp-up phase, with live operations already underway for one customer and goods being shipped. In the final expansion, up to 150 new jobs will be created at Fiege’s new logistics center.
“The Hanover-Braunschweig-Göttingen-Wolfsburg metropolitan region is an important distribution location for us. Peine has excellent logistical connections and is thus ideally suited to represent omnichannel logistics for consumer goods,” says Christoph Mangelmans, Managing Director at Fiege in the consumer products sector. Due to its central location at the intersection of national and international transport routes, the site offers optimal conditions for Fiege’s international procurement and distribution activities, Mangelmans further explains, “our logistics center in Peine has direct access to the A2 and A7 motorways.”
The construction project was implemented by Fiege Real Estate in collaboration with project partners Deka Immobilien, LIST Bau Bielefeld, and Krüger Consult GmbH as project managers. Only just over ten months passed between the start of construction and completion. Thoralf Schuster, Managing Director at Fiege Real Estate, says: “During our new construction project, we were in constant communication with the city of Peine. We would like to express our gratitude to the city for its support. As a family business, we feel very comfortable here.”
The new building in Peine is optimally tailored to Fiege’s logistical processes and offers high usage flexibility, allowing for variable responses to different customer needs. “It is impressive how quickly the new building has taken shape,” explains Klaus Saemann, Mayor of Peine. “We are pleased to welcome the family business Fiege to our hometown.”
Climate-Friendly Infrastructure
Fiege also places great importance on energy-efficient operations in Peine. The new building meets the requirements of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and is certified accordingly. The logistics center features energy-saving LED lighting, modern charging infrastructure for e-mobility, and an energy concept including monitoring.
