(Helsinki) The Chinese shipyard China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) has delivered the third and final of three hybrid Ro-Ro ships to Finnlines. The first ship, Finneco I, was delivered on April 28, 2022, and the second, Finneco II, on May 30, 2022. The ships are 238 meters long and each has a loading capacity of 5,800 lane meters. Consequently, the ships can transport 400 trailers per trip. Compared to the largest ships in today’s Finnlines fleet, the cargo capacity of the hybrid newbuilds will increase by almost 40%.
Further Step Towards Sustainable Shipping
The three ships represent another step towards sustainable shipping as they are energy-efficient. Energy savings are the best way to reduce emissions. The ships have the highest Finnish/Swedish ice class. Finnlines’ newbuilding program, equipped with 500 million EUR, also includes two environmentally sustainable Superstar Ro-Pax ships, which are scheduled for delivery in 2023.
Significant Milestone in the Newbuilding Program
“This is a significant milestone in our newbuilding program worth 500 million EUR, and we are pleased to welcome the Finneco trio to the Finnlines fleet,” says Emanuele Grimaldi, CEO of Finnlines. “Through our ambitious investment, we can not only provide our customers with economies of scale and increased frequency but also a green and well-planned infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, North Sea, and Bay of Biscay. The Finneco trio will provide Finnlines and its customers with added value as they commence operations on their routes,” Grimaldi further stated.
