WAVES Partners with CTL and Receives TÜV Certification
8. June 2022Twelve companies from across Germany today received funding notices from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) in Berlin for the acquisition of climate-friendly commercial vehicles. They represent over 450 applications submitted under the guidelines for the promotion of alternative, climate-friendly commercial vehicles and infrastructure (KsNI). A total of 320 projects worth around 200 million euros have been approved.
(Berlin) Federal Minister for Digital and Transport Dr. Volker Wissing: «With our funding, we support companies in taking responsibility for climate protection and reducing emissions in road freight transport. The number of applications demonstrates the great interest of the industry in transitioning their fleets to clean drives. I am pleased that we can continue this success story with the second funding call as well as an additional call for special vehicles and infrastructure. Both will be published later this month. The goal is emission-free logistics.»
2,000 vehicles with alternative drives funded
The submitted projects include around 2,000 battery, fuel cell, and hybrid electric commercial vehicles, with 153 applications for the associated operational charging infrastructure and around 30 applications addressing feasibility studies.
The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport is providing a total of approximately 1.6 billion euros for the promotion of the acquisition of climate-friendly commercial vehicles until 2024. Additionally, around 7 billion euros will be available until 2025 for the establishment (or expansion) of refueling and charging infrastructure for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
Second funding call on June 15
The KsNI funding program is coordinated by NOW GmbH, and applications are approved by the Federal Office for Goods Transport. The second funding call for commercial vehicles and the associated operational refueling and charging infrastructure, as well as an additional special call for special vehicles and infrastructure, will be published on June 15, 2022. Application submissions will be possible starting June 29, 2022.
Example: Contargo and Rhenus
As an example, Contargo and Rhenus Trucking received the KsNI funding notices for 28 battery-powered 44-ton trucks and the associated charging infrastructure. These will be used at the terminals of the container hinterland logistics network Contargo to offer customers even more climate-friendly transport options in the future.
Rhenus Trucking will now immediately order the vehicles from various manufacturers to gradually make them available as a service provider to their customer and sister company Contargo.
“We see ourselves as responsible for actively driving the traffic transition forward together with our customers,” says Jürgen Albersmann, Managing Director of Contargo GmbH & Co. KG. “Therefore, we maintain close cooperation with the fleet management experts at Rhenus Trucking, who excellently advance our impulses for the implementation of electromobility within the Rhenus Group.”
