Lufthansa Cargo Opens New Art Storage Facility at Frankfurt Hub
14. June 2022In Langenhagen near Hanover, DACHSER is commissioning a new warehouse location. The facility offers a total area of 11,800 square meters. Starting in summer, DACHSER will provide extensive warehouse and transport services for industrial customers there. The new location is optimally connected to the transport network.
(Kempten/Hanover) Of the 9,500 square meters of warehouse space, half can be used as block storage for stackable goods. The other half of the hall is equipped with shelves that provide space for 8,700 pallets. Trucks can be loaded and unloaded at 11 gates of the hall. Additionally, there are two gates for small transporters and two ground-level gates to allow for lateral loading and unloading of bulky goods. Office space has been set up on approximately 800 square meters. An additional 1,500 square meters of logistics space is provided by an extra mezzanine at the front of the warehouse. Here, value-added services are implemented, such as packaging, labeling, or fine picking.
The new warehouse location is part of the “Alpha Industrial Business Park Langenhagen” and is located near the airport, where the DACHSER logistics center Hanover is also situated. “We see a great demand for storage space and logistics services in the Hanover metropolitan area. The effects of the pandemic on global supply chains have further boosted demand,” says Aleksandar Beslic, Branch Manager European Logistics, DACHSER Logistics Center Hanover. “With the new modern warehouse location, we can flexibly meet various demands from our customers. This capacity expansion is an important development step for us in the region.”
Flexible and Well-Connected
The facility operates as a multi-user warehouse. Goods from various existing and new customers from the industry are stored. The storage of hazardous materials is also possible. For this purpose, 1,350 of the pallet spaces are equipped with rack sprinkler systems. A customs warehouse license for the temporary storage of goods provides further flexibility at the location.
500 People Work at the Location
DACHSER has been operating the Hanover logistics center on Kemptener Straße near the airport for more than twenty years. There, industrial and commercial goods (European Logistics), food (Food Logistics), as well as air and sea freight (Air and Sea Logistics) are handled. Currently, around 500 people are employed at DACHSER in Langenhagen. “Hanover-Langenhagen is one of our most important hubs in the network. DACHSER handles over 1.3 million shipments there every year. The further expansion of warehouse capacities once again underscores the importance of the location,” says Alexander Tonn, COO Road Logistics at DACHSER. “Due to its location at Hanover Airport, proximity to the A7 and A2 motorways, and short distances to the significant seaports of Hamburg and Bremen, our logistics center Hanover is optimally connected to the global DACHSER logistics network and thus also to the global procurement and distribution markets.”
Sustainability Considered in Construction
The business park in Langenhagen with the new warehouse was realized by the nationwide operating real estate investor and project developer Alpha Industrial and meets various sustainability criteria. Floor-to-ceiling windows and a high number of light bands ensure more natural light. Additionally, there are green roofs, LED lighting, e-charging stations for cars, bicycle parking spaces with photovoltaic roofs, a well for watering the green roofs and green areas, as well as the planting of a local orchard.
Long-Term Collaboration
“We are very pleased that we can support DACHSER in expanding its capacities with our modern business park in the Hanover region and look forward to a long-term collaboration,” says Ulrich Wörner, Managing Director of Alpha Industrial Advisors GmbH. Unlike many other project developers, the family office retains the “Alpha Industrial Business Park Langenhagen” in its own portfolio and will manage it itself.
