Jun 14, 2022 at 7:06 PME-commerce is booming, and with it the market for courier, express, and parcel service providers. GLS Germany is also on an expansion course due to the continuous increase in parcel volumes. Among other locations, the parcel service provider recently sought opportunities to grow in Potsdam and commissioned Logivest to find a new site in the Brandenburg capital.
In the south of Potsdam, the consulting company specialized in logistics properties found a suitable location. At Drewitzer Str. 51, Aurelis Real Estate GmbH, as the owner and developer, is constructing a new distribution center for GLS Germany on an approximately 51,000 square meter logistics area. The planned new building, with nearly 9,000 square meters of hall space and 1,500 square meters of office space, will be built to the latest standards and in a sustainable manner. The completion and occupancy of the built-to-suit property are scheduled for mid-2023.
Designed as a cross-dock
Designed as a cross-dock, the property is completely accessible and features a spacious maneuvering and parking area. Additionally, ramp doors with interchangeable bridges are planned for loading and unloading both trucks and vans. The usable height of the hall, which is up to 10 meters, is ideal for a multi-story sorting system, which is intended to enable a high level of automation for the distribution center.
GLS Germany Regional Manager Pouyan Anvari is looking forward to the upcoming project: “For us, the new depot in Potsdam is another important construction measure in our strategic overall development. We are heavily focused on sustainability, and this is naturally reflected in the construction of new depots. In order to provide our customers with the comprehensive service they are accustomed to, we are continuously expanding our network of locations. Now also in Potsdam.”
Good accessibility of the area
“The location of the property in the Potsdam South industrial area and its proximity to the A115 motorway fit perfectly into GLS Germany’s logistics network. Additionally, there is optimal infrastructure and good accessibility via public transport – an important and unfortunately often neglected factor for the entire workforce,” says Dirk Heiertz, Key Account Manager at Logivest GmbH.
