Wrong Tires on Trucks Are Like Half Shoes for Hiking
14. June 2022Lufthansa Cargo has opened its new art storage facility at the Frankfurt hub yesterday, continuing its path towards modernizing its largest air freight hub. The ARTcube at the Lufthansa Cargo Center now offers its customers double the space for the safe and professional storage of valuable artworks of all kinds, covering an area of 155 square meters.
(Frankfurt/Main) “The modern ARTcube combines optimal handling processes with the highest security features. This allows us to meet the special requirements of sensitive art objects and offer tailored solutions for the storage of artworks and exhibits at our hub,” explains Thomas Rohrmeier, Head of Handling Frankfurt at Lufthansa Cargo. “With the new building, we have sharpened our qualitative focus on this specific product, providing curators and art collectors with the best storage conditions for their art shipments.”
Ventilation System with Heating and Cooling Function
Freight from the Fine Arts segment will benefit from a technically modern specialized storage facility, where a ventilation system with heating and cooling functions allows for targeted temperature control. Vertical window bands on the facade permit natural lighting, which is optimized by a supporting lighting system. Specially trained handling personnel ensure optimally coordinated processes. Access to the specialized storage is regulated and monitored by sensitive security technology. As an add-on service, there is the option to book individual accompaniment for art shipments, especially on the ground.
Regularly, valuable and famous artworks by significant artists are flown to renowned exhibitions around the world by the freight crane. With the product offering “Vulnerables,” Lufthansa Cargo has tailored a special transport solution to the needs of this unique industry, thus ensuring safety, professional handling, and continuous monitoring for art logistics.
Modular Infrastructure Program
The new art storage facility is part of the modularly planned infrastructure program “LCCevolution” at the home hub Frankfurt, which includes the construction of the central high-bay warehouse at the Lufthansa Cargo Center and a gradual core renovation of the logistics infrastructure. The complete modernization of the Lufthansa Cargo Center is expected to be completed by 2029.
