Cuxhaven Expansion Requires Cooperation from Federal, State, and Industry
28. June 2022175 guests accepted the invitation to the topping-out ceremony of the new GROUP7 logistics center at the end of last week. The modern multi-user warehouse in Hamburg-Billbrook will encompass 26,000 square meters of logistics space and 2,000 square meters of office space upon completion. GROUP7 is investing a total of 36 million euros in the new location and creating 150 new jobs in the region. The state-of-the-art multi-user logistics center is set to commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2022.
(Hamburg) The last stage of construction for the GROUP7 logistics center was initiated with the traditional topping-out speech. On the occasion of the traditional celebration, the CEO of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Malte Heyne, addressed the attendees and expressed his appreciation for GROUP7’s consistent growth at the Hamburg location. Prior to this, GROUP7 board member Günther Jocher briefly reflected on the long journey to establishing their own logistics center in Hamburg: “I am proud of how we have managed to grow from a small office in 2006 to a branch with 28,000 square meters of office and logistics space together.” The board then expressed warm words of appreciation for everyone involved in the construction: “From the construction worker to the project manager and architect, I would like to thank you for your extraordinary commitment and flexibility. That we will be able to operate our logistics center on schedule despite wavering supply chains and additional pandemic hurdles is your achievement!”
Innovative Scanning Technology and Driverless Transport Systems Planned
The logistics center will commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2022. At the new location in Hamburg-Billbrook, sea freight consolidation containers will also be unloaded from imports and loaded for exports. Additionally, GROUP7’s national and international truck traffic will be expanded through the newly emerging fifth hub in Hamburg.
In logistics, in addition to state-of-the-art scanning technology, driverless transport systems will be utilized. Furthermore, 14,000 pallet spaces will allow for long-term and flexible storage of goods. The new logistics building in Hamburg Billbrook is located 13 kilometers from the Port of Hamburg, 16 kilometers from the airport, six minutes from the A1 motorway junction Hamburg-Moorfleet, and one kilometer from the Billwerder Moorfleet S-Bahn station. Both employees and procurement and distribution benefit from the convenient location.
Hamburg’s Additional Sustainable GROUP7 Logistics Center with DGNB Gold
Like all other GROUP7 logistics centers in Munich, Frankfurt, and Neuss near Düsseldorf, the new building in Hamburg will be certified with the Gold Standard of the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council). Ecological highlights include highly efficient heat pumps and heat-cooling ceilings, as well as a photovoltaic system with provisions for energy storage to meet its own energy needs and supply power connections for e-bikes, e-cars, e-sprinters, and e-trucks. The local flora and fauna are also taken into account: A green roof with flowering flora, sedum carpet, herb meadow, and stone rose flora provides optimal biodiversity, while outdoor insect-friendly lighting with 3,000 Kelvin avoids light pollution. Each year, the GROUP7 logistics center in Hamburg will save approximately 850,000 kWh of energy compared to a reference building. This is roughly equivalent to the annual consumption of 14,000 refrigerators.
