TGW Equips Fulfillment Center for Picnic in Oberhausen
14. July 2022The globally positioned specialist for warehouse logistics, Rhenus Warehousing Solutions, celebrated the groundbreaking for a new logistics property in Bönen, North Rhine-Westphalia, directly at the Kamen highway interchange. The logistics service provider will take over the building in summer 2023 as a multi-user facility.
(Holzwickede/Bönen) On 59,000 square meters of hall space, forward-looking automated solutions support employees in their work. A large part of the hall space is already allocated to the traditional manufacturer of fastening elements, Spax. The clear focus of the project is on a high degree of automation.
On a total of 106,000 square meters of land, Rhenus Warehousing Solutions is creating a hall space with a height of 12 meters in six fire sections. The new logistics property is located in Bönen, North Rhine-Westphalia, specifically on Edisonstraße. The multi-user facility is planned with a high degree of technological integration, which is why the name “Edison” – Thomas Edison is considered a pioneer in the field of electrical engineering – is part of the facility’s program. The core of the warehousing processes is a coordinated automation that addresses the personnel challenges of the skilled labor shortage in the logistics sector. Through the interplay of various autonomous material handling vehicles such as narrow aisle forklifts, pallet conveyors, and underfloor robots, goods are fully automatically transported to different work areas, stored, and made available for subsequent processes as needed.
Showcase Project for Automated Warehousing Processes
Rhenus is establishing a showcase project here in terms of automated warehousing processes and demonstrates how machines and digital tools can facilitate and accelerate customer-specific requirements in many areas. “We consider this location a lighthouse project. Technologically, Rhenus is pioneering here and shaping future security through innovation. We look forward to presenting the final result to our customers and partners soon,” reports Andreas Mayer, a member of the management board at Rhenus Warehousing Solutions Germany. The topping-out ceremony will be celebrated later this summer.
Large Part of the Hall Already Leased
With the new logistics property, Rhenus is able to support customers from various industries in their logistics operations. A large part of the hall space is already leased to Spax International with the world-renowned brand SPAX. The strongly growth-oriented developer of fastening elements is focusing on modernization and welcomes the concept of the new warehouse location, which is also in close proximity to the Spax headquarters in Ennepetal. The new property is conveniently located in the industrial and commercial area and offers ideal conditions for the processes of a highly automated logistics warehouse. The brownfield project also meets the requirements of sustainable logistics. For example, an air heat pump will be installed; in addition, a comprehensive photovoltaic system will be implemented. The goal is for the location to be energy self-sufficient.
