SBB Cargo renews fleet and leases 35 new Vectron locomotives
16. July 2022Fraport AG has opened a new parking lot for trucks at Frankfurt Airport. The new parking area at the entrance to CargoCity South measures approximately 14,500 square meters and provides space for 70 trucks. In total, there are around 150 truck parking spaces available in CargoCity South. Drivers can take advantage of free Wi-Fi and modern sanitary facilities, including shower rooms, at the new parking lot.
(Frankfurt/Main) “Global connectivity via air only works if goods are delivered and transported on time by road,” says Max Philipp Conrady, Head of Location Development Cargo at Fraport. “The new truck parking lot provides better conditions for these important supply transports.”
The new area is operated by the parking management of Fraport AG. It complements the existing 69 parking spaces, parking garages, and underground garages distributed throughout the airport premises. With the new parking lot, truck drivers have another option to comply with their legal rest periods. “Especially in light of the currently tense staffing situation in the transport sector and the heavily frequented highway rest areas, the additional 70 spaces at the central traffic hub of Frankfurt Airport offer an attractive environment for driver changes and breaks,” says Gerald Krebs, Head of Parking and Mobility at Fraport AG.
License Plate Recognition
The new parking lot is located behind Gate 32. Access to CargoCity South through this gate operates using the automatic license plate recognition system “Click-2-Drive.” Guests register at ccs.fraport.de. On-site, modern camera technology recognizes the previously registered license plate and automatically opens the barrier. If visitors have not yet completed their registration, they can do so at one of the 25 car and 18 truck parking spaces in front of Gate 32. These are free for the first 30 minutes and can be accessed through a barrier.
“Our goal is to sustainably develop the CargoCities at Frankfurt Airport and adapt them to the needs of our partners on site,” says Conrady. “In addition to the new parking lot, we are also focusing on digital networking that simplifies the complex handling of air freight and alleviates the busy cargo areas. ‘Click-2-Drive’ is a fitting example of this.”
Construction time of around 20 months
Fraport opens the new parking lot after a construction period of around 20 months. Three barriers are available for entry and exit. The costs are structured according to days or hours.
