HHLA Improves Terminal Access for Trucks with Truck FIT
20. July 2022With the groundbreaking for the new logistics center in Osterburken, REISSER Screw Technology GmbH is sending a positive signal for the local economy in currently challenging times. The groundbreaking for the state-of-the-art logistics center in RIO will take place on July 19, 2022. The construction time is expected to be 18 months.
(Ingelfingen-Criesbach/Osterburken) On an area of four hectares, a warehouse of approximately 20,000 square meters will be built in Osterburken, which is 100 meters wide and 200 meters long. “The new site in Osterburken is comparable in size to the main and production site in Ingelfingen-Criesbach,” emphasizes Matthias Essig. The company has proactively secured a right of first refusal for an additional 8 hectares of directly adjacent land in RIO to unlock further growth potential.
At the new logistics location between Odenwald and Jagsttal, a modern administrative building will also be constructed alongside the high-tech warehouse. Michael Dartsch and Alexander Kimmerle look positively towards the future. The two managing directors know that the new logistics center in Osterburken is a milestone for REISSER to ensure a future-oriented service level in logistics for its demanding clientele while also pursuing sustainable goals.
Expansion is a Logical Step
“The investment in Osterburken is the largest in the company’s over one hundred-year history. We are confident that the investment volume of 45 million euros is well placed,” confirms Michael Dartsch. The expansion in Osterburken is a logical step for Alexander Kimmerle, planned with foresight: the spatial capacities at REISSER’s headquarters in Ingelfingen-Criesbach are limited for the ambitious strategic plans and growth targets of the manufacturer of high-quality fastening and connecting elements in the digital age. “The freed-up spaces in Criesbach can be used for the expansion of our machine park. This ensures the further development of our production and thus continues our growth trajectory.”
Until now, REISSER had managed warehouse logistics with additional external warehouses through external service providers. “However, the throughput times and process times have become longer in recent years. In the future, everything will come from a single source through the new logistics center in Osterburken, and the external warehouses will be completely eliminated,” explains Alexander Kimmerle.
Direct Highway Access to A81
The new location in Osterburken also benefits from its favorable traffic situation with direct highway access to A81 Stuttgart-Heilbronn-Würzburg: the historic Limes city serves as the gateway to the European metropolitan region of Rhine-Neckar and is also an important railway junction. “With the logistics center in Osterburken, we remain in the region and strengthen the location. The short travel distance ensures close contact with the headquarters in Criesbach at all times,” emphasizes Michael Dartsch.
Approximately 60 employees will move from the headquarters in Criesbach to Osterburken after the completion of the new logistics center and transfer their expertise to the new location. With the logistics center in Osterburken, REISSER is venturing into technical new territory: the centerpiece of the logistics center will be an autostore system, a fully automated storage and order picking system.
Autonomously Driving High-Rack Stackers
For the first time in the company’s history, autonomously driving high-rack stackers will be used. “In the new warehouse, the finished weighed and marketable packages of screws will be stored in over 75,000 autostore containers. Since no drive aisles are needed, the autostore system is very compact and offers high space utilization,” says Alexander Kimmerle with enthusiasm.
The managing director sees another advantage of the innovative autostore system: ergonomic working methods are promoted. “The goods come to the employees. In the weighing area, there are height-adjustable assembly tables, and there are lifting aids at the pallet picking area.” Over 18,000 pallet spaces are planned in the pallet warehouse, which will be serviced by the autonomously driving high-rack stackers. “Compared to the location in Criesbach, we can store more than three times as many pallets here,” adds Michael Dartsch.
Sustainable Construction – Partially with Wood
In the construction of the warehouse and the administrative building, REISSER relies on modern and sustainable construction methods. In the administrative building, the hybrid construction method of concrete and wood will play a key role. Wood is the more climate-friendly building material, while concrete precast elements with their good properties in sound insulation, fire protection, and load-bearing behavior are ideal components for a load-bearing structure. The company also expects many advantages from the use of a ventilated facade. “The ventilated facade is one of the most successful facade systems on the market today, and we also see great potential in the market for REISSER. The focus of the ventilated facade lies primarily in the constructive separation of thermal insulation and weather protection, but it must also meet special requirements such as fire protection or sound insulation. The insulation and the cladding are thus separated from each other, creating a ventilation space that is an important corrective for moisture regulation in the masonry,” explains Michael Dartsch.
In the construction of the logistics center, REISSER can draw from its own product range: distance screws will be used in the facade of the administrative building, and sandwich screws will ensure stability in the facade of the logistics halls. The new buildings in Osterburken will be planned and constructed according to the standard guidelines of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) for energy-efficient construction (keyword: KfW Efficiency House 40).
Many Energy Measures
“Concrete core temperature control, photovoltaic systems on the hall roofs, and heat pumps are just a few examples of the many energy measures we will implement. A parking garage with charging stations for electric vehicles is also firmly planned,” emphasizes Matthias Essig.
