REISSER Screw Technology Celebrates Groundbreaking for Logistics Center
20. July 2022Joint Research Projects: S&P Computersysteme GmbH from Leinfelden-Echterdingen and the Supply Chain Services group of Fraunhofer IIS based in Erlangen have agreed to collaborate on research and development activities. The partners will jointly explore issues related to artificial intelligence in intralogistics.
(Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Erlangen) S&P Computersysteme GmbH, a provider of intralogistics IT solutions, and the Supply Chain Services group of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS have decided to collaborate on joint research and development activities in the field of artificial intelligence and data science in intralogistics. The focus of the joint research includes, among other things, the area of personnel planning and predicting the required warehouse staff for a specific time horizon. The first workshops with experts from S&P and Fraunhofer IIS have already been successfully conducted.
Tackling AI-related Questions Together
S&P Computersysteme GmbH and the Supply Chain Services group of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS will jointly explore questions related to artificial intelligence in intralogistics in the future. Due to their proximity to customers, S&P not only has insights into their practical issues but also into the specific challenges, conditions, and data of intralogistics processes. The Supply Chain Services group of Fraunhofer IIS can additionally propose suitable solutions based on their existing knowledge of the methods of AI and machine learning. This knowledge exchange serves both to prepare for technology transfer and is intended to provide a long-term impetus for new projects.
AI-based Demand Forecasting
“AI-based and application-oriented demand forecasting for logistics, trade, and production is becoming increasingly relevant for companies. Together with the experts from S&P, we are now approaching this topic in a practical manner and are researching efficient solutions together. I am looking forward to further discussions and the endeavor to bring our solutions into application in the long term,” summarizes Prof. Dr. Philipp Gölzer (Field Coordinator for ‘Digitalized Production’ at the Supply Chain Services group of Fraunhofer IIS).
New Insights and Innovations
“We are convinced that collaboration with the experts from Fraunhofer IIS will provide new insights and impulses for future innovations in intralogistics. Our first joint workshop has already shown us the potential in the warehouse that can be uncovered with the help of AI and what is possible. The entire S&P team is looking forward to further research activities,” adds Rémy El Abd (Managing Director at S&P Computersysteme GmbH) in agreement with Prof. Dr. Gölzer’s words.
