DXI: New Service Provider for Data Exchange in Combined Transport
Jul 24, 2022 at 9:50 PMPremiere in Kiel: The ARTANIA took regular shore power for the first time during its stay yesterday. This was preceded by the ship-side commissioning and a corresponding integration test between the shore power system and the cruise ship. Both were successfully completed during the calls in Kiel on June 26/27 and July 11. The shore power supply for ferries and cruise ships is a central environmental concern at the PORT OF KIEL.
(Kiel) For Phoenix Reisen, the use of shore power is a premiere: It is the first time that a ship from the operator receives regular shore power in a port. With the ARTANIA and the AMADEA, the fleet already has two cruise ships capable of shore power. Further ships from the German cruise operator are undergoing corresponding retrofitting. The port is pleased: “We always offer shipping companies and cruise operators shore power supply during calls in Kiel. All tests with the ARTANIA have been successfully completed, and we are happy that it can now also dock with us in Kiel emission-free,” says Lisa Sarodnick, Environmental Manager at the PORT OF KIEL.
The ARTANIA received a total of 20,000 kWh of electricity during its stay on Thursday. The cruise ship is supplied by the shore power system at the Ostseekai with 6.6 kV/60 Hz. The shore power supply for ships in the port is an essential part of a sustainable transformation in shipping. The PORT OF KIEL was one of the first ports in Europe to invest in corresponding shore power infrastructure. With the completion of two new facilities at the East Side Port, up to six ferries and cruise ships can be supplied simultaneously with Scandinavian green electricity instead of the previous three starting at the end of 2023. For this, SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG is investing 17 million euros.
